UTA game thread

I didn't get to watch, but it sounds like the shooting was bad. Haith was just talking about how this team could shoot well before or after our last game. Said the same thing last season.

I counted 4 dry spells of 3 minutes or more, that's a lot of the game. There were two longer than four minutes with one of those longer than 5

And we gave Haith an extension? AnpAnot fine example of our brilliant AD

Clancy needs to cut bait with all these people he inherited. Maybe we could run an ad in the Thrifty Nickel for an AD and 3 head coaches for f-ball, men's b-ball, and women's b-ball.

Do the still put out the thrifty nickel?

Ah, yes but it’s a true story.

So when we beat ORU comfortably Tuesday we can check back in. This wasn’t smart scheduling to play a likely tourney team on the road this early in the season with a new team. Chill out guys.

This UTA team is not a likely tourney team based upon their metrics. We’re just not very good. Poorly coached with very little in the way of shooting.

They’ll be a tourney team. I may have to exit the board for the foreseeable future. I can’t take living and dying with every single game.

They are very likely a tourney team because of conference auto bids. They return every starter from an almost tourney team from last year.

That being said it’s still a bad loss, especially being down by 20+ most of the 2nd half.

South Alabama was the near unanimous pick to win the Sun Belt. So unless the Sun Belt is a two bid conference or UTA beats expectations (they were picked 2nd) they are not likely to see the tourney except on TV.

That said...the are a good mid major team. Those who pay attention knew we lacked shooting and were likely below average in the back court. We will play better at home (most teams do) and I expect us to beat ORU but unless this team figures out a way to put the ball in the basket it’s going to be another disappointing season. At this point we appear to be a flawed team.

i agree, but I expect our chemistry and our defense to improve. We won’t shoot 20+% on the road nightly.

I have watched a game and a half now and I see a group of players giving full effort but still several months away from being a "team". When you don't have McDonald's All American talent levels you need a practiced team to be successful. I like this group of players and I hope they can gel together over the next few months and make a late charge towards the end of the season.

This is were the reduced practice times makes it harder on the non-Power NCAA schools. The 1999 team had some new players, but they practiced with the coaches a whole lot more than is allowed now.

That's on the school or Haith actually, we haven't used and international trip in a long long time. Last I checked we could get a bus and drive to Canada. With all the new parts this would have been a good year to do it.

I had other commitments and didn't get to see the game.

I would be interested to see the line ups we had when we went scoreless for minutes at a time.

Gragg messing up the KES waiver is huge for this team right now. That's on him and Haith.

TU didn’t mess up on the waiver. Please stop being ignorant.

Ahem.....

Every other Arkansas transfer is eligible. We went with a reason other than what they did. Tulsa's was denied. The other two were not.

That is directly the fault of the stated reason for his transfer and why it was denied on appeal.

I realize we don't go to read your comments for your insider knowledge and indepth understanding of the university's athletic department, but we do expect you to follow along and have basic understanding of the situation, from at least what is posted on the free board.

Be Best

How many more years?
This board is starting to sound like the football board! Are we saying both of TU’s only “money” sports need big changes to achieve the success we all want? The problems go way beyond the coaches, but that would be a good starting place.

Shooting and rebounding are the two most important elements in basketball.

Tulsa is poor at both.

Could be a long year.

I hope I'm wrong.

GO TU!!!
