USF Game Thread

Hey, on the bright side, I got right in the donor parking lot tonight without an issue.

Observations from one of the 800 people who showed up.

We are not very good. That was a really poor game against an average high school team with one good player. Game was over when Forte picked up his fourth with 7 minutes to go and only down 4.
Haith is really down to playing 7(8 if you count the 5 minutes he give Magney a night). I expect at least three of our guards to be gone next year. Haith has no interest in giving them minutes even in a lost season. Battle got a minute, maybe that will keep him around.
Just not fun to watch right now.
And in the post game they compared Wheeler to Shack Harrison!!! WTH??

Oh well Sunday is the last game and as disappointed as I am with the team this year and how little I think of Birts game and Haiths coaching, I always try to be there for the last game to show my appreciation for our players and especially our seniors for their efforts and contributions to the TU family.

I think if TU beat Cinci a few weeks back, this would be a completely different outcome for the season. A missed free throw on a 1 and 1 with under a minute left in the game sacked the season. The team got pissed and gave up. I've seen lots of comments here during game threads saying Haith is repeatedly being outcoached. I don't know enough about bball to comment on that, but I do wish we'd have someone down low in the key when it's our ball on offense. We just pass around the perimeter until the shot clock expires. Maybe a big man to play in that area would give us a more dynamic offense. I dunno, but the team wasn't that bad until they lost to Cinci

We finally saw the ball go consistently to the high post. Wish Etou had taken more open shots from that spot but he did make a number of good passes low to Igbanu.

If Etou would have made some 12-15 footers, TU could have won by 67. He wasn't guarded in the middle of the zone.

This team is interesting. In my opinion, Igbanu and Etou are two of the most talented players TU has ever had. Kudos to Haith.

On the other hand, the majority of the Freshman class he signed (other than Igbanu and Magnay) doesn't come close to "moving the needle" in the program. Korita was my assumed star during preseason.

Like the rest of the posters, it's my opinion that 2 non-seniors for sure won't be back. I think the number could be as high as 4.

I'm hoping Korita turns it around. In other cases, you can tell Haith is starting to "move on" regarding some of these players.

Yup. Korita has upside. He does interesting things with the ball in the open court. If he ever calms down, he'll be solid.

I still like Battle. Some of these other guys are kind of goofy. I think the current reduced size rotation says a lot.

Thursday is party night at TU

Not sure what kinda parties you went to but no, 7pm isn't college party time on any night.

I dunno how you fix student lameness. And they're kind of important for general game atmosphere.

Hey thanks for that. It's important.

Sunday is unfortunately the game that was deemed the single national alumni watch party game for all the chapters back in January. Even if it mattered, a Sunday vs ECU is dreadful. I can't go to our chapter watch party even if I really wanted to, but an effort to be there in person is always a good thing.

Lolz. After KJ and Swanson, and milleneals came on the scene, and TU went up in rankings, and Yolonda banned parties at TU, I think things changed.

There were a lot of nights I remember at some fraternity house (or my Condo) at TU running into Parker and Ledoux after a game. And literally everyone on campus was at the game before. Even people who hate sports. That culture died. Thanks Wojcik.

The good news is Yolonda got canned recently. So @RealTUTypical and LEC need to start an old school like fraternity and let's bring back JR's.

I think my expectations for this year got out of whack when TU beat UConn and Memphis at home. It's weird - but I feel like Taplin's missed front of the 1-1 against Cinncy was like the corner 3 by Wisconsin - which ended our NCAA streak for years. Some plays become a curse that is hard to lift. I didn't feel any change tonight, but I hope we see it on Sunday. And then we have the weirdness at SMU before Tulane. I believe TU has a rather amazing winning streak in Moody, but I could be wrong. But, I expect a 20 point plus win.

Wish I could spare the change for a trip to New Orleans. I love NOLA and I've yet to see TU win there in person (in basketball). I saw the football team win in a nearly empty Mercedes Benz Dome in front of an announced crowd of 22K that was really 3K.

korita plays good defense, handles the ball well and passes the ball very well. he reminds me a bit of ron baker. the current rotation has alot of to and missed defensive assignments along with too much dribble out front and to the basket. wheeler makes a lot of circus shots. I feel teams will catch on to this and shut down his driving.

two players will go, but I do not think three will, because it will upset the classes. wheeler is not even close to shaq. who in the post game made this comparison.

The only comparison I saw was by Haith at the press conference when he complimented Wheeler's rebounding for this game. No one compared the two as players.

Have you even looked at the 'classes'??? Unless replaced, we have 6 sophomores and 4 seniors next year. Replacing 3 of the freshman(sophomores to be) would leave us at a perfectly balanced 3/3/3/4. If he brings in a JC player, he will be replacing Artison or Wheeler, or reallocating one player from our freshman to next year's junior class.(2/4/3/4 or 2/3/4/4)

Korita plays smart offense & defense most of the time, but lacks lateral quickness. He appears to have a good shot, but is currently shooting under 30%. Ron Baker is extremely athletic, & is now playing for the Knicks. I hope Korita develops into a good college player, but I don't expect another Ron Baker.

I think he was talking about production - points, rebounding - in the comparison. And trying to encourage Wheeler to have more of an impact driving to the bucket.
