Tulsa World Ultimate Insult

It was funny, though, when Tisdale and Herb Johnson were pointing at each other after Tisdale was called for goal tending on Johnson in the first half of Tulsa 104-89 victory in 1985.
That is my #1 favorite sporting event I ever attended. Even beyond our NCAA second and third round wins in 2000. No comparison.

and the answer - a full page article on a high school scoring phenom that has no D I offers. A token article on the top of the page with no picture. And an Emig "I remember" this column unrelated stuff.

I get that you love owasso and Milton is from owasso, but you have to call a spade a spade here... the kid was incredibly immature and petty about TU and deserves what he gets from the fan base.

If he weren’t from owasso would you be as quick to come to his defense?

He's friends/acquaintances with the family. The family and the kid act nice around him, so he thinks the kid can do no wrong.

"While securing an important victory to stay afloat in the middle of the American and move above .500 on the season, TU (12-10, 5-5 AAC) had an answer for every second-half run by SMU, which entered riding a six-game win streak at the Reynolds Center."
KHines Pretend journalist

Is that just an error of carelessness, or ignorance, or an intentional tiny jab to piss off the avid fan. Stay not move.

I don't think it's as much of being from Owasso as it is being a former teammate of my oldest child, who is a year older than Shake.

I've known the Milton family since Shake was in 4th grade and his sister was in 1st so of course I'm biased. I coached against their dad for several years in the local youth league until he passed away when Shake was in 9th grade. If you've ever had a kid in competitive athletics, you'll know that a lot of travel is involved and often the only fans in attendance at away games are the players parents. You do get to spend a lot of time getting to know the families of the other players.

Tulsa is my school, but I do maintain an interest in players that I watched grow up, especially those that I know personally. I know what he told his teammates late in his junior year about why he wouldn't attend TU, but I don't know if that got out publicly and is what is causing all the ruckus.

You mind divulging that story he told his teammates to actually quiet the fans debate about what he said/verify the story going around.

How about you share the story that's going around and I'll try to verify it's accuracy. I'd guess that it's based on fact but has probably grown like a tall tale as it has spread.

Back to the TW and it’s pretend reporters. Hines keeps tweeting and writing that the only reason TU won is because Milton didn’t play. Who the hell cares? Screw Milton, screw SMU. Why not give credit to the fact that TU played good defense tonight against the actual players SMU did have. McMurray did nothing after halftime save for 1 shot, Chargois did nothing. On top of that TU had 4 players go for double digits and won the rebounding battle while only turning the ball over 9 times which is an improvement on the season avg. Why not focus on that?

Maybe if the TW would focus on writing articles TU fans found flattering and complimentary of the local university, more Tulsans might actually subscribe to the rag.

I think the whole story about how Shake was turned off to TU by the whole way Jaylen Lowe was “promised” an opportunity to play QB here before he left because we all know Lowe was NEVER going to see the field as a QB on an FBS team, has been well documented in this board.

I don't know exactly what was said, but there is
Nothing wrong with defending a family friend, I would do the same thing. I love TU, but family and friends trump a sports team any day

Nah shake is a dbag. He and his family fell for that snake oil salesman who was the coach when he went to SMU. That program is and will always be a joke.

Have you ever met him? Just because someone dosnt like TU does not make them a bad person. That being said, I have never met him , so mabey he is, but I'm sure not going to call him a dbag because he didn't go to TU

The way he openly bashed tu for no reason and all that came along with that supports my statement.

What did he say? I would like to know, if he just randomly came out and said horrible stuff about Tulsa, then going to SMU, then yes, that is immature, but if it's just all based on rumors , that's a terrible thing to bash him about

I know that, but I want to know what he actually said, if he chose not to come to TU because his friend didn't like it is one thing, but to actually come out and bash the university is a very different thing

BLA's version sounds like two stories combined into one. Milton told his teammates that he didn't want to go to a school that treats the students like they're stupid. His friend and former teammate felt that he had been treated poorly by the university. This was academic related, not athletics.

Lowe is on record as saying that he "just wasn't happy at TU". I don't if this was due to athletics, academics, or a combination of the two. He did seem to have a big impact on Shake's decision, but again it was for academic reasons.

I'm still interested to hear what he said that bashed TU. I guess I must have missed that one.

On a side note, the TW article seemed to imply that Shake may forego his final year of eligibility if he is projected as a 1st round draft pick. Is that even a possibility? He does remind me a little bit of a young Victor Oladipo, minus the singing voice.

Academic reasons? Lol. Lowe was acting like a spoiled brat so he bashes tu to shake..who then continues bashing tu while we spend a ton of time and money on his recruitment.

He went to some academic powerhouses after TU.

Back to the topic at hand: when Milton is in G league next year, and TU beats SMU again, I bet the headline again says we beat them without Milton.

I don't think we spent that much time and money on him. Manning and staff were very rare attendees at his events. On the other hand, Kruger from OU was there all the time.

Yep and SMU wasn’t bc Shake bought into that dirty ass school and dirty ass coach. It’s a shame the family couldn’t see that.

However, as soon as Haith was hired, his staff went full-court press on Shake...but they didn't realize he had been tainted by Lowe.

That's true, Haith never had a chance. Coach Manning came to a couple of late season games after Shake had indicated to the team that he wouldn't attend TU so maybe he didn't know either.

You got that right. The recruitment by SMU must have been top secret as I don't recall their coaches ever attending a game except for possibly an out of state tournament. His selection took most by surprise.

If you don’t want to get felt up at the prom.. don’t wear a slutty dress.

Seriously.. if our program had been where it should have been then the opinion of Shake’s butt boy Lowe wouldn’t have weighed in his choice.

That story has gained legen (wait for it) dairy status.

But at the end of the day, a program that hasn’t performed at a Championship level since almost before the kid was born can’t bitch about the fact that he wanted to go play for a former NBA coach.

How many native Tulsans on our team?

Is it an insult? Maybe.

But, he will sell more papers in Owasso than TU basketball normally will.

If we don’t want these kind of insults then we have to build a recruiting wall around the metro so strong that our local studs stay home.
Does it matter? If they want to do a side story on the Tulsa homecoming, fine, but it should never be a lead story. Just as OU or OSU should never be a lead story if Tulsa plays the same day. They’re dying because they don’t realize that.

Frogs sell beer.

Oh please. Jaylen Lowe acted like a child and bad mouthed TU bc he wasn’t playing. Shake was lied to and promised an nba internship if he played for the cheater. Shake clearly isn’t the sharpest crayon in the box.

If that is true, I wonder who he talked to? Someone that actually put forth their best effort to achieve at TU? If you put forth the effort, I know NO professors at TU that won’t work to help you. That is what drew me to TU was knowing I could approach any of my professors at any time and ask for and get help in understanding the material. Anyone who has followed Ramadi Warren’s trials the last couple of seasons knows this to be true. He may never again play a game in a TU uniform but everything we’ve heard is that TU is still pushing him in his academics. Doesn’t sound a whole lot like not caring to me. You’ve got to want to be there and succeed academically. Sounds to me like Shake wanted the easy SMU way out where admin assistants in the athletic dept. complete easy A class work for you so you can stay eligible. So be it and to hell with him!

When SMU is good, you know they are cheating!

We were nice to shake since he was hurt. A little disappointing but we got to make fun of their Juwanna Man lookalike instead.

I’m sure Shake is a decent dude overall. We’re still going to give him crap for trashing the school and playing for a rival, so just accept that. Lowe isn’t even worth talking about.

You can paint this however you like since you love the kid, but you’re not going to change anyone’s mind here. The kid talked shat on TU and most TU fans and alumni don’t take to kindly to that. Enjoy wearing your smu sweater over your TU shirt on the weekends.

The story sounded pretty close to true to me.(Did you here him say it to his teammates or is that by the grapevine too?)

I don't remember Pat B. getting up in other player's face from any other team. He was talking :crap:, whether you want to admit it or not. And he influenced other players. Otherwise there wouldn't have been a Tulsa area player exodus to SMU. Adults don't hear everything said. This debate should stop here. You got your two cents in, so did the rest of the board.

Smoo sweater? That would probably go nicely with those Jordache pants you think I wear.
