Tulsa World continues to insult TU

Mark Cooper's article on the OSU-Minnesota game notes how disappointing it is that OSU has lost to two "mid-major" opponents at home and then refers to Tulsa and MoState as non-Power 5. I wonder if Cooper is aware that ESPN and other national reporters dropped the mid-major term altogether, largely because it made no sense applying it to the Big East and American, as well as the Mountain West and Atlantic Ten. Which team is mid-major in basketball: TCU or Connecticut?

And the Power-5 is a football terms with no relevancy to basketball.

This pejorative term merely categorizes some programs as unworthy and others worthy. Hope Cooper enjoys covering his major program Pokes this year.

Its so unfortunate that they lost site of who supported them for so long and kept them going through good times and bad. Now the very people who were their biggest fans have abandoned them. The TW was never meant to be this anti-Tulsa. They will blame their demise on everything besides themselves.

It took about a year, but I finally realized the only thing about Oklahoma area sports I want to read, I can get here on rivals. I haven't looked at the Tulsa World in a decade, unless it was a link posted here or over at the scoop.

Funny story real quick. I worked at the Trib in the sports dept '91 and '92. I was a junior at TU and I just tried to keep my head down and stay outta trouble. One afternoon, the phone's ringing off the hook and MacLeod, Sittler, etc. are all on the phone. I answer it.

Some douchebag who sounds drunk asks for Sittler. I say, he's on the phone, can I take a message? "Tell him to call Donnie Dawken back."
Sure thing, assclown. Sittler gets off the phone about 20 minutes later and I tell him Donnie Dawken called for ya. He rips me a new one b/c apparently it was important and it was OU AD Donnie Duncan.

I sometimes think that Sittler's column about the "heckler" vs. Wojcik episode was his way of getting even.
