No he isn't. Whitfield is a safety.

The official website of the Golden Hurricane has him listed as a Safety. He is projected to start along side Jordan Mitchell at the other safety spot. I do believe McKinley's position is a type of hybrid safety/LB spot but could be wrong.

I think he could play either. The question is where he is needed most. Going to be a great player with some more experience.

That would be my guess with petera moving to end and brubaker sliding inside on passing downs.

Whitfield did start at Star in the spring game. But Monty told me that was just an experiment. He said Whitfield is strictly back to safety now.

Diamon Cannon and Treyvon Reeves were battling for the Star spot in the spring, and they will continue at the beginning of fall camp as well, but Whitfield is still getting a look there.

That seems like an awful waste of Whitfield's talent. I think he's one of the two or three best DB's we have.
