Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's basketball team added Kara Pongonis, will be eligible to begin her junior season in January 2016.
"We are extremely excited that Jess is joining our basketball family," Mossman said. "She brings a toughness and physicalness to our team. She is not afraid to mix things up inside, while also having the ability to step out and shoot the three."
Pongonis is a transfer from Saint Joseph's University where she played in 30 games. As a sophomore, Pongonis played in six games and earned one start. She averaged 1.0 points and 1.0 rebounds in just 10.7 minutes per game. During her freshman season, she tallied 1.8 points and 1.5 rebounds per game, and added six blocked shots. She had a career-best 10 points against Mount St. Mary's, and four rebounds against LSU, Quinnipiac and Dayton.
Pongonis led Hamilton Southeastern High School to the Hoosier Crossroads Conference title as a junior and senior, and a top-20 national ranking her senior year. As a senior, Pongonis posted 11.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 blocks per game, and shot 50-percent from the floor. She was named to the Indiana North/South All-Star, Indiana Class Basketball All-Star and Hoosier Reunion Classic All-Star teams as a senior, and was tabbed to the All-Hoosier Crossroads All-Conference team as a junior and senior.
Pongonis was invited to the 2010 Midwest Nike Skills Academy, was a four-time Hamilton County Sports Daily All-Star and All-County selection, and served as team captain for three years.
