TU vs SMU game thread

I dont even know why I get emotionally invested every year in TU athletics.

Same thing year after year after year.

A glimmer of hope and then a series of soul crushing defeats.

Great half by Horne, unfortunately he was the only one with a good half. If the guys can put it together I think we can take this. SMU has gotten a lot of lucky bounces.

I'm just a fan watching the game on tv but what I'm seeing is a lack of effort by TU. SMU's players seem to want it a whole lot more than ours. That must change in the second half.

Teams have figured out all they have to do is play us hard and rough inside and get us out of sync with a little help from the refs. Our inside game is not very many and not very tall players. so it does not take to much to get us out of sync. Too bad they have seen our weakness at the start of conference play. Don't know how we can or will solve this.

I'll make my one comment that should work for the entire season:

Ever since the AAC teams noted that Igbanu is the only inside scoring threat, he has been doubled and tripled, Then if we shoot better than 50% from the three we win,....... less, we lose....simple game.

That theory failed against Cincy but 20+ turnovers will negate everything. Can we shoot better than 50 % from three enough to get to the dance ? That is our only hope.

And Jeffries has been just a hair off on shots he normally gets.

SMU is out hustling us...
When you out hustle the opponent the breaks are not lucky they are earned...

Ever since conference play started it seems like the refs are swallowing their whistles on plays under the basket. I wonder if that is one of those “points of focus”? It’s been a lot like tourney play which puts us at a disadvantage due to our lack of height.

Good point. We score a disproportionate amount of our points by drawing fouls (especially Igbanu) so a loose whistle can be a big challenge for us.

So weird that opponents hit treys when continually left wide open.

At least that is what it appears the team thinks...

Our coaches have not had time to scout McMurray. Bruce may have been the only one here who knew he could shoot the three apparently. Or our players are having trouble memorizing his number. :)

Igbanu tries to fake it two, three, sometimes four times. He never goes up early with confidence, like he should a lot of times. Teams are realizing that.

A couple big moments we've made really dumb passes. Still time

Teams must love playing against us. Pad their 3 pt FG % and their rebound numbers. Just brutal

I think Falokun and Barnes need to play the rest of this one.

Well we've played our worst game of the year immediately after blowing a huge game. The mental toughness just isn't there with this team I'm afraid

Mental toughness isn’t there.

We have talent. We have coaching (for the most part). But we don’t have the balls to play with the upper level of this league.

That has to change.
