Addendum: I watched another game which was played on11-20-15 and it is described after this one in another post on this thread.
Watched a full game of Travis Atson playing for Notre Dame Prep in the National Prep Showcase Invitational this week. My (one game) thoughts:
He plays the 3 for his prep school team at 6'5". I usually can describe a former TU player with similar skills, but can't on Travis.
He scored about 20 points in this game but all but one three came from 3-4 feet from the basket or free throws. He made 1 out of 5 threes. I am concerned that he won't get any of those inside shots off against SMU or Cincy inside at 6'5".
I was most impressed with his crafty floor game and great passing. He always found the open man and seemed to be someone who would make the last one minute free throws. (5-5) here with very good form.
He played the middle of a 2-1-2 zone offense catching the ball above the free throw line and making good passes or driving to the hole. On defense his team played zone and he was only of average high school quickness. There were no Harrison or Woodard type rim grabbing rebounds either.
He apparently has been hurt for a couple of weeks before this so I don't know if this has slowed him down or not but there were no dunks or diving for balls or even running at full speed.
In summary, a confident hard nosed kid with a good skill set and maybe better in seeing the floor than any of our current players (maybe except Taplin). Hard to tell three point shooting from one game. The form looked good, they just didn't go down. I don't think his high school inside scoring will translate very well to the college game in the AAC. Excellent free throw shooter which now we know is so important. I will try to catch a full game again some time as video highlights are worthless.
