We probably lost that much or nearly that much without Haggerty and the rest last year. Hopefully the additional nil gets us at least a little more fire power this year. I'm guessing we win in the 13-17 range. I may change my mind after I see who leaves and who we add.
The more interesting question is the over/under on how many games will TU take a lead at the half and then be blown out in the second half...
It depends on who the coaching staff is next year. The same staff will produce the same results as this year - or probably worse. Justin Moore needs to take action now like he did with football.
They've already announced he will be here next year. That game is over.
We played 33 games this season. Of those 33, we played one game against an NCAA tourney team. Does Konkol improve the schedule or can we expect more of the same ?
Asking honestly, what would you suggest? I'm on the fence. Feels like we need to be able to win against bad teams before loading up on good ones. If we had a top 50 schedule, we would have struggled to win 10 this year. I think next year will be the same. He schedules like Wojick but still can't win 15.
I think he needs to schedule "toss up" games for OOC games (MVC type) and if he can't coach and recruit to win those, then we have the wrong guy. Some teams get a lot better by playing better teams.
I guess he's not going to win most no matter who we play so might as well play some interesting teams.
I say schedule tough, you can’t prepare yourself for post season play with cupcakes. You’re better off losing to Auburn and Louisville than you are to Missouri State and UALR and if you win a few it could make a difference at the end of the year.
We should schedule all SEC teams for non-conference games. The selection committee has shown that a losing record in SEC conference games will not adversely impact you participating in the NCAA tournament.
Zero reason why we should have the easiest schedule in the AAC so Konkol can get to double digit wins. Schedule needs to be more difficult. We need to tell recruits…you come to Tulsa and you will play tough OOC games. If Konkol can’t put a team on the court to compete with teams Net#75-150 then he needs to go. Our fans deserve to watch good games against good teams. There was zero reason to play a number of the home games we had on our schedule this past season other than to pad Konkol’s win total.
Konkol has shown both here and at la tech that he won’t schedule meaningful non conference games. Not that we’re in any at large type of position anyway, but that type of schedule allows only one way to get to the ncaa tournament… same as all the other low major conferences. So essentially the non conference is meaningless, the conference slate is not all that meaningful either. All that matters is getting hot in the conference tournament.

Schedule doesn't matter, he will win 10 to 12 games next season..
I'd be happy with a schedule like this: 1-3 games top 50. 3-4, (50-100) 3-5 games, (100-150) 1-2 games (150-250) and maybe 1-2 games top 350
I agree but getting any top 50 and most top 100 teams to play us at home are pretty much zero. Neutral site tournaments would be a good place to meet some of these highly rated teams.
Bill, How did Nolan (or Emery Turner (or was it Jim King) get us to play Louisville at home , Purdue , and JD Barnett even got Arizona here? Used to get OU here too.
I’m not sure I can answer that. Recall that Louisville was on a road trip that also played at OSU 2 days later. But maybe the teams, Louisville, Purdue, Georgia (Mabee Center) knew Nolan was bringing in players off the NJCCA championship team and we were going to be pretty good. Nowadays it’s a lot harder to get a really good team to come play a terrible team on the road. Doesn’t do them a bit of good trying to get into the tourney.
During Nolan’s years at TU, only 32 teams made the tourney and we didn’t have NET to value the relative strength of a team, such as quadrant wins and losses and whether the wins were at home or on the road. The RPI was 1st used in 1981. It only used winning and losing percentages of teams played.
Also, I believe many games were scheduled based on relationships with schools/coaches rather than using analytics to determine what a win or loss would do to their NET (quadrant wins/losses).
As a side note, Louisville, coming off the national title in 1980, lost 6 or their 1st 7 games in the 1980-81 season, including losses to us, DePaul (rated#2), UNC (rated #6), Okie State, Utah and Minnesota. Their only win in the 1st 7 games was at #4 Maryland.
Louisville was a Missouri Valley foe until 1975. We may have retained some scheduling relationship with then into the 80's
I don’t understand why Konkol refuses to schedule a holiday tournament. That’s one time I can financially justify watching TU play. They’re usually in places my wife enjoys so I can use the travel as a family vacation and see three TU games in 4 days. I even emailed him about that last fall and he considered that mess with Detroit and Georgia State his holiday tournament. There was a decent team in that but since it was a 4 team swap type situation we never had a chance to play them win or lose.
