Gentlemen,
I just wanted to thank all nine of you for your commitment to the University of Tulsa. What you all have accomplished is VERY rare to see. Nine young men who who have dedicated 4 or more years of their lives to a program and university.
In an age where suspensions, scandals, and academic issues are commonplace in college sports, there has never been a hint of trouble from this group. You have endured coaching and philosophy changes, unforgiving academic requirements, and heavy alumni expectations to return a once great program to its position.
You should all be proud of yourselves.
Your dedication and effort will serve you well for the rest of your lives. The friendships you have made at TU will endure forever. You now know what it takes to persevere in a world that doesn't give you more than you are willing to work for. I am confident that you will all succeed.
I have lived and died by my university's basketball success for 40 years. I complain about effort and lack of improvement but I have nothing but admiration for the nine young men who will today put on their Tulsa uniforms one last time for OUR university.
