I believe the root reason arises from a general distrust of the federal government. They also see the large increase in the number of vaccines being required (recommended) by the federal government and hedge at putting all those drugs in the bodies of the children. Some also see a relationship between the increasing number of vaccines and increasing reported cases of autism.

Being dumb is not a justification for bad decisions. We’ve had many of these vaccines for 50+ years. Many of the people filing for exemptions have the vaccines themselves. They just want to be contrarian because they don’t legitimately understand the situation and they fully grasp (or refuse to acknowledge) the consequences of their actions.
A wackadoodle’s conspiracy theories should not exclude them from civic duty. I will give a respit in certain fringe cases for religious exception, but there is no where in any of the religious texts that talks about vaccination and I’m not going to take someone’s roundabout interpretation as gospel.
I do not trust the government …. Most people don’t and that’s totally fine . I do however trust my doctor and the good majority of them that have a lot more medical expiration than some dude in their basement that’s posting absolute nonsense for others “ research “
Because maybe my baby can’t be administered the vaccine (safely) until they’re a certain age and they have to rely on the rest of us to be vaccinated. Same goes with people with certain immune deficiencies. You not getting vaccinated threatens the life of my child.
And I don’t take kindly to people who threaten the life of my children…. (Or other people’s children…) Especially when they do it while basking in their own stupidity and grinning in my face about it.
