Southern Illinois (Net 159) Neutral court.
Early in the year our coaches don't seem to worry much about wins or losses, just getting prepared for the conference season. It really showed in this game. Taplin was still hurting but other things stand out.
39 substitutions- there was no continuity at all.
Had a lead of 51-49 and there was a media time-out at 10:37
Substituted in Falokun, Scott, Barnes to go with Taplin and Horne. Quickly SIU went on a 12-0 run before we could sub back in Jeffries, Igbanu and Joiner and SIU coasted in from there.
Barnes had 17 minutes
Falokun got 13 minutes
Moore got 15 minutes
Compare those minutes with how many they get now. Barnes 2 or 3. Others none
We are now where we have to essentially win the tournament to get the NCAA bid. Yes, the Utah road game and the Cincy game at home loss were the other roads to the NCAA.
Winning out and beating Houston in the semi's might get us some votes, but that is a much higher mountain to climb than simply beating Southern Illinois and hanging on against Cincy.
Maybe there is an NIT in there somewhere if we falter. The young kids need the extra games.
