I thought I would bring this up since there's no weekday game this week. Also, it doesn't look like there's going to be any turnover in men's sports this year (hopefully, not the women either). Over the years of TU sports, when a coach left, when were you sad about it, glad about it or mad about it.
I'll go over my thoughts about which TU departure evoked which emotions for me. I go back a long way. I'm sticking with football and men's basketball. Just permanent head coaches, not interims.
Sad -- Glenn Dobbs (FB), F.A. Dry (FB), Ken Hayes (BB), John Cooper (FB), Nolan Richardson (BB), Tubby Smith (BB), Dave Rader** (FB), Bill Self (BB), Steve Kragthorpe (FB), Todd Graham (FB).
Glad -- Vince Carrilot (FB), Claude "Hoot" Gibson (FB), Jim King (BB), J.D. Barnett (BB), Keith Burns (FB, ecstatic), John Phillips (BB), Doug Wojcik (BB), Bill Blankenship (FB), Frank Haith (BB), Philip Montgomery (FB).
Mad -- Don Morton (FB), George Henshaw (FB), Steve Robinson (BB), Buzz Peterson (BB), Danny Manning (BB).
It's pretty obvious about the sad category. Coaches who succeeded at TU, some bringing success at unprecedented heights. All were very popular, well liked figures. The exception being Dave Rader. I felt that Dave would have won more games with the proper support of the University.
The mad category is mainly coaches who bolted for other jobs after only staying two years or less. Sometimes it wasn't the coaches fault.
The glad part is pretty obvious too. On some of them, I wonder why it wasn't done sooner.
