Sunday Scrimmage

I had already seen the video that TU put out. Just wanted more info on results (both team and individual players). Meanwhile, Wichita State publicized the results of their "secret" scrimmage with Nebraska.

Not much info coming from the Okla State side either. Oklahoma State played Waters, DZ and Cam very limited minutes in the scrimmage. Sounds like it was a physical scrimmage which will benefit both teams. If I hear anything specific I will post the same.

The highlights did look nice. I wonder if we held anyone out. Looked didn't see any highlights of Jones or Haywood.

The scrimmage score in these type of things don't tend to mean much imo. I'm much more interested in which players played well, rebounded and shot well. Most coaches aren't playing to win but to evaluate. Thus, a lot of young players tend to get the PT the vets would typically receive in a real game.

I understand, and agree with you. It's just curious that Wichita chooses to publicize theirs and we don't. Would be nice to know which players scored well, etc...

My guess is both teams agreed not to do that, which is why there are some highlights on both teams' videos showing their own buckets only.

There are no secrets in Wichita.

At least that’s what your mom told me.

Osu will be a legitimate top 15 or top 10 team this year.. wouldn’t put too much stock into a preseason scrimmage vs them

I doubt that. Their star freshman just got suspended and didn't play in the scrimmage anyway. They're #40 in Kenpom's preseason rankings.

Pokes' 247 page is saying their starters jumped out to a large early lead and Boyton pulled them early. Not a great sign for us.

The Boone twins apparently went for close to a double double each.

LOL. Shocker. I know for a fact both schools aren’t releasing anything of importance. The game wasn’t a real scrimmage, and wasn’t played like a real game. Both sides sat several important pieces for most of it. So dumb to take stock in anything you hear coming from either side in this.

I'm not saying it's the end of the world. Just that their starting 5 jumping out to a big lead on our starting 5 early isn't tremendous news.

From everything I hear, that’s not even remotely true either. Also, as I said before, neither side played starters long. That’s extremely slanted by that OSU site.

I just thought I'd post the pokes' perspective on it.

With football season having taken such a depressing turn I really need basketball season to get here quickly.

You can tell from the scoreboard in the highlights at one point it was 2-10 OSU before we scored two buckets in a row. I suspect that’s their “sources”.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that score. OSU had a walk-on in the game when the video showed the scoreboard. There's no way that was shot at the beginning of the scrimmage.

I heard Ugboh blocked 5 or 6 of the Boone's shots. And OSU struggled from the three point line. But you hear everything. We shot poorly as well I heard. Let's just wait for Halloween and see for ourselves.

I have it on good authority the game wasn’t play at all like a scrimmage and this sites reporting what they did is clown shoes. We did well in the scrimmage and anything else taken from it is dumb. Both teams benefitted, let’s move on.

I guess we didn’t beat osu last year. My bad.
What a dumb ass post.

It's not my fault you didn't understand what I wrote. The point was that we often start games slow and end up beating people anyway and an early deficit really has nothing to do with the strength, or lack thereof, of our team. Basically, being behind 11-2 doesn't mean anything.

Who the hell is surprised?

Weirdos.

It will take at least 10-12 games to see if this team can go .500 in the AAC. They will need time to gel.

BTW: That would be a HUGE accomplishment. .500 this year is a "fingers crossed" reality.

Most of you guys are in denial! The AAC is such an elite conference for Tulsa.

Time will tell. No shame in going .500. But, that's the best case scenario going into this season with many question marks.

No.

Best case scenario? No. If we get the other waiver, we are finishing top 5-6.

If we hadn't added the transfers I would say .500 is best case, but two of these guys are major upgrades in the area we were weakest last year: rebounding. Rachal and Ugboh will kill it there, not to mention the freshman Early. We'll also be more athletic everywhere minus the loss of Jeffries. The lost shooters will be tough, but we went 14-4 in this conference with a team that couldn't shoot just a few years ago. Not saying we'll be good. There's lots of unknowns. But the high end of this team's potential is better than .500.

The 10th place prediction is lazy and uninformed IMO.

I think the Halloween exhibition will finally give us a clue. It seems like Haith will start out with the veterans but I hope quickly some of the newcomers will overtake some of them.

I don't think we will really know what we have until we play the latter half of our Non Conference Schedule. At least our Conference Schedule isn't as daunting as it was last year.

Study the rosters and returning lettermen in the aac

fingers crossed

this shows you really don’t know basketball. Rachal is a stud. If we get this other waiver then that’s another shooter we need. We have a pretty complete team and the most depth we’ve had. Like I said, that 10th Place prediction and just lazy and uninformed.

Good evaluation....Last year's weaknesses were rebounding, overall defense
(the dreaded open corner threes and the allowed put backs under our basket),
and ball handling (those mid-court turnovers were heart breakers)....Our shooting
was so-so, but Scott's clutch baskets in critical situations, Igbanu's great foot work,
and Jeffries' and Hornes timely contributions let us escape with the record we
finished with.

This year, we probably have come a long way in correcting the defensive and
rebounding problems...But shooting and ball handling still seem to be a concern....
Without having seen the new players in action, It appears we may have to hustle
to match last year's shooting results....Hill, and if waivered, Haywood may help in
that respect, We still have Horne and Igbanu, Haith seems high on Jones,
and Joiner and/or Korita may find their shooting touch....Also, we may be a better
offensive rebounding team...

Ball handling problems seem to be a staple since Haith got here....Even with
Shaq and Juice, we turned it over too much....Hopefully, Hill and Joiner, and
even Christopoulos can reduce what have been awful numbers in recent seasons..
The success of our season may well depend on it.....

I say he changes his name to Chris Christopoulos

One other thing I'm a tad conserned about is free throw shooting. Outside of Horne, we don't return one guy who shot over 70% from the line, and both of the JUCO's we got were pretty bad at the line at their old schools. I'm hoping Hill is a good foul shooter because the rest of the team seems like they won't be.

Yeah....I remember the singer/keyboard rocker of the 90's was named
Christopher Cross, and obviously became Chris Cross when shortened..
Problem was, he didn't have a cross-over move.....Hopefully George
does....
