SMU Ranked #24

Line already dropped to SMU by -12.5 now. Wonder what the final line will be. Bet it will move a lot this coming week.
GO TU! Spank the Ponies!

With our defense I like our ability to hang with just about anyone at this point, and we shouldn't be at a talent disadvantage against SMU. I just hope we don't see any evidence of the conference trying to protect it's NY6 potential teams

We have the ability to win the rest of the season depending on staying injury free and if the offensive line will “Grow Up” . If they don’t improve we will just be a team that had some potential.

couldn't be a more perfect set-up for TU - SMU has a big road win and comes home ranked and ready for a loss against a team rested after a bye

I haven't seen much of SMU playing at all. Just in looking at the box scores, they run the ball a ton with a lot of success.

Outside of the win at TCU (who isn't nearly as good as what they've been in the past), SMU really hasn't played anyone tough. USF is terrible this year. In looking at SMU's box scores...they don't take a ton of shots downfield (avg. attempt is like 9 yards). This tells me TU absolutely must stop the run and put SMU in 3rd and long situations. If the D can do that consistently, I like our chances. SMU's defense is serviceable, but nothing great. Don't think their defense is the side of the ball winning games for them right now.

I'm not quite sure what to expect from SMU, but just comparing some general stats...

Total Offense:
SMU - 13
TU - 101

Total Defense:
SMU - 54
TU - 57

Interpret that as you will considering differences in opponents and what- not.

The only comparable opponents would be TCU and OKState...and I don't think TCU is near as good as OkState, especially on offense. UNT/Sna Jose State- probably a wash. SMU played TxState...nowhere near as good as Wyoming. USF would probably lose to Wyoming. And SMU played SFA who is probably not quite the same caliber as Michigan State. Let's be honest, our offensive numbers took a beating in that game and the stats will be skewed by that one game alone. We actually ran up some decent offensive numbers in our other games (although we still struggle to finish drives off with points).

This is a solid assessment. A person could argue that TCU is closer to Wyoming than they are to OSU, but that remains to be seen. We've definitely played a tougher schedule either way.

I wonder what our offensive numbers would average out to without the MSU game?

So it takes SMU at 4-0 to crack the top 25, but it takes us 8-0 back in the day. I see how it is, bitches.
And they did it playing worse competition. Their most impressive win is the one vs TCU...who is not the same TCU as old and likely looking at an 8th or worse finish in the Big XII. (Figure it will be a battle between TCU, Kansas, and WVa)

TCU walloped KU this past weekend, so you can take KU out of contention for 8th.

They can and will "Grow Up" against SMU! IT'S TIME GUYS!

Minus the MSU game we are tied at 34th with Navy at 457.3 YPG. This game is always a strange one so I like our chances. I’m ready for a pony beat down!
