our opponent Sunday UCF, maybe the surprise of the league along with Houston and Memphis. Crucial game for TU to become tied for second. We need a big crowd.

I don't really see them as that much of a surprise. At the beginning of this season I saw everybody in this league as better than Tulane, EC, and USF. Their entire winning schedule has been against two of those teams. They are the only team that does not have a win against SMU, Cincy, Tulsa, Memphis, Temple, Houston, or Uconn. We can't lay down against them, but we can't lay down against anybody and be assured of a win. I watched them against USF the other night, probably the weakest team in the conference at the moment, and didn't see a whole lot to fear.

I didn't see much from ORU last night either , but every team has a guy go off for a career 3 point shooting night against us. ;-)

UCF has some bangers underneath...not a ton of finesse. USF shoots a lot of 3's, like they did successfully against us last year when 3 guys scored 90% of their points. That's what I took from watching those teams play the other night. It was sort of ugly.

Agree that UCF presents challenges with the big man, but their record is not surprising. If TU holds serve, I believe TU will be in sole possession of second by Monday morning at 5-2. If so, the game @ UH becomes a must win to keep tournament hopes alive.

If we win, I think there is a slight possibility of a tie. The rescheduled game Sunday morning at Temple could be an upset of Temple over SMU. I still think SMU is gonna lose at least 1 league game.

The 7'6" kid is big in the middle, but if Swannegan boxes him out, he is not terribly athletic and does not move very well, so we should be able to keep him contained. Big E might get some minutes in this game just to bang on him...he looks pretty frail. They have the other 6'9" kid who looks like he should be playing football. Dre might actually win that matchup in the post.

Not sure if I should root for SMU or Temple. My guess is it helps TU if SMU goes undefeated (or loses only to TU in Dallas).

The post got me looking at our remaining schedule and it's about to get rough. Starting with @Houston we have a ten game stretch that includes Houston twice, Cincy, @SMU, Temple twice, @UCONN, @Memphis, Tulane, and @UCF. 8-2 would be great but I'm not sure that's even good enough.

I still believe it's in our best interest to root for every team (except Gonzaga) to beat SMU until we reach the stretch run.

I think 8-2 would be good enough, but we'll be underdogs in half those games.

We need to press and break every time because their weakness is the lack of mobility of their bigs. The object should be to NEVER set up against them, just out run them - tire out their posts who can barely get down the floor anyway. Gas em out!

Did I half-ass, kinda, sorta call it, or what? ;0)

This basically happened. UCF was gassed. Good prediction rabid....

UCF had nice bugs but yeah, they can't handle speed. I was surprised they tried to pressure is early.

But SMU doesn't actually lead the league since they are disqualified.

I think the AAC needs to clarify as to whether or not SMU can still be crowned the regular season champ despite not being eligible for post season play.

UPDATE: AAC just responded to a tweet that if SMU finishes atop the regular season standings, they would indeed be named AAC Regular Season champs.

Being the regular season champ means pretty much nothing. Especially when they cant even utilize the NIT tie in it would garner. (Not that they would need it this season)

But the regular season championship would mean a lot to any other team in the AAC as I think if the regular season champ and the tourney champ (if different) would both earn spots in the NCAA tournament...

The AAC allowing them to be regular season champs takes a post season bid from the conference. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Really stupid. Come on AAC.

We should have been crowned champs last year as well.

SMU is a bunch of friggen cheaters.

GO TU!!!!

Regular season champ only sets seeding so I don't see how this takes a spot away.
