9 scholarships lost over three years, ban from post season this year, Brown to sit out 10% of games.

You beat me to it. It was a only a matter of a time. I heard it was 30%. 9 games total. But either way, this news makes me happy

Holy Cow...I predicted something like this yesterday when I heard the NCAA was ruling on it...mostly in jest as I have come to the realization that the NCAA doesn't care about an actual level playing field for everyone, but making sure the image of the money makers is protected. I figured they'd slap them now and after Brown retires, then hit them and let Jankovic try to dig the Ponies out from under the sh*t pile.

Did anything happen to Frazier?

Of course we all know if this were a P5 school, it would have been a slap (see UNC) and nothing would happen in the long run.

Will the NCAA allow free transfers now? Shake, there is room on the Tulsa bus son. C'mon home!

Just so I'm clear, UNC is still playing basketball --- right?

Seems legit.

I called SMU getting hammered. I don't know enough facts to call BS or not on that situation, but the double standard is truly amazing.

Does UNC employ a coach who got three schools on serious probation?

SMU had basketball violations in early 2000s.

This didn't happen in a vacuum. Also, UNC has a bad ass AD.

UNC does have a bad a$$ AD. Bubba is having to clean up this mess. Butch Davis paid for part of this mess (and the selfish stupidity of John Blake) with his job although he has largely been absolved of any wrong doing. The academic fraud at UNC is said to go back all the way to Dean Smith (and according to some former UNC academics, pushed by the legendary coach). UNC would likely get the "lack of institutional control" label which is much more serious.

Yes, Larry Brown has now been proven to break the rules at two schools. SMU has a reputation as well. Having read this: "Additionally, the head men’s basketball coach failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance when he did not report violations and was not initially truthful during an interview with NCAA enforcement staff", I am shocked Brown hasn't been dismissed with cause by SMU. If SMU did so, they might be able to appeal the decision and get the schollie limit reduced to 2 years. Jim Tressel got fire from Ohio State for not being forthright and honest about what he knew. According to the statement above in the NCAA release, Brown did the same thing.

Stop passing guess work off as fact. Larry got three schools on probation: UCLA, KU, SMU.

I mean, when we heard Brown was hired by Smoo I'm pretty sure everybody on this board collectively predicted penalties in their future.

Deserved. Hoping for an SMU ban from the post-season AAC tournament.

Maybe we get lucky and Brown is on the bench when SMU plays here - a non-stop probation chant should reign down whenever SMU is on offense

No doubt the high school player he tried to get in who went overseas was in the back of their minds as well.

They deserve the death penalty just like they got for football.

Is it just me, or is reading Ponyfans have the same feel as reading a Westboro Baptist message board? These guys drank the koolaid and then took out second mortgages to pay for Nic Moore butt tattoos.

SMU fans are hilarious. So much crying and playing the victim. It makes me LOL.

The fact that their administration is still publicly backing Larreh is HYSTERICAL, but it fits their culture so well.

He does have a track record almost as impressive as Tark????
Difference is Tark wasn't a completely arrogant prick about things. Most of Tark's issues were boosters at UNLV otherwise known as Vegas mafia, and then Tark giving kids second chances who probably weren't cut out for university life. Didn't Tark also win a lawsuit against UNLV? Don't think Brown is going to win anything.

BTW, how is Frazier even eligible now knowing he couldn't have gotten into school without this shady stuff?

Agreed. Tark was just ****ing great. I loved listening to him talk about the NCAA as it was a communist country.

The fact that Larry Brown continues to say he did nothing wrong and this secretary was a rogue actor is hilarious. Come on Larry, take a hike. 3/3 bro.

Are they going to strip SMU of last years AAC championship. Wouldn't that make Tulsa defacto champs?

GO TU!!!!!!!

That's interesting. They would have ended up being the 5 or 6 seed had they forfeited the games he played in. He played in 5 AAC games early in January and was then declared ineligible for the rest of the season. Since he didn't play down the stretch and they actually did win the tourney title without him, probably not.

No. They are not. Read the coverage.
In the article I read it states "An official with the AAC said the league would have no comment on the matter Tuesday"

The AAC would decided the conference champion not NCAA I would think.

Where did you see the "They are not" ?

Thanks in advance.

GO TU!!!!!

Per that article:
The program has been levied with a postseason ban for the upcoming season. No AAC tournament, no NCAA Tournament, no NIT, CBI, CIT. All of this barring an appeal, of course.

I wonder what happens if SMU appeals - the article asks that question then doesn't answer t.

They will try to drag it out. Their fans think it will last all year so Brown won't be gone until next year. Will be nice if NCAA rules quickly and burns them.

The absolute most awesome part of this is they'll drag it out and Larry will retire after this year, and SMU will be left counting on Weird Tim Jancovich to extinguish the ensuing nuclear meltdown. I mean, that's almost the same as the death penalty. The death penalty is at least only one year long.

^^^this^^^.

I see Brown pushing for an appeal so he can have one last "glorious" year. He is a master manipulator. Don't let him work the system, NCAA !

Someone quick, ask Nic Moore where he's watching college basketball games this March?
