Scandal involving OSU coaches

Official from Louisville...both Pitino and Jurich have been fired. I wonder if Louisville is going to try to not have to pay Pitino's buyout considering he was probably fired under "just cause" for lack of program control.

Pitino statement

Holder @ OSU and Broyles @ Ark. have a lot in common....They somehow
became (almost or mostly?) legendary during long tenures at the helm, but
as far as Championships are concerned, neither accomplished much....Nolan
won him (Broyles) a National title in men's BB, but according to Nolan, they
despised each other....

The thing they had most in common was that their reputations preceeded
them..They were/are very hard to coach under because of Micro management,
interference, and public sniping....This is one of the main reasons that a good
head coach for BB has not been hired, and I actually don't remember one
being interviewed.......

Holder lucked into a good FB coach early, and has stuck with him....With
very few exceptions, his selections for HC in men's BB have been mediocre
at best...Kind of an honor roll of ne'er do wells.....

This coming period will be a real test for Holder, and might put him on the
sidelines for good.....From the standpoint of the University, this would not
be all bad......

Latest is that Pitino is mentioned specifically in the FBI investigation and charges with regards to at least knowledge of payments to Bowen. If that is the case 1 year of no competition in men's basketball (death penalty) should be the minimum the NCAA comes back with.

I love it when these big schools get caught

I somehow doubt that will happen simply because it is Louisville. Call me cynical, but the NCAA hasn't shown much of a spine on these issues in the last couple decades. I do agree that is what should happen if what you say is true. There has to be real monetary consequences to this kind of stuff or it will just continue. Either come down hard on this stuff, or just give up the ghost on "amateur athletics" and call money-making college sports what they currently are: a semi-professional sports league.

Feel bad for any innocent kids caught up in this at Louisville or other places. Even if payments were made from agents in their name, it doesn't mean the kids knew anything about it. But sanctions on post-season play and such really hurt the players the most, and they arguably have the least amount of power in the whole organization.

Antwann is from Florida. I suspect his commitment to OSU was because of $$$ and not the state of Oklahoma.
True, I am starting to be a little optimistic about the basketball team this year, looks like we have a very talented team, if we can put it together will be the question.

I'm not sure TU would even touch these decommitting recruits, unless they
could verify that no funny money was involved.
Good point, indeed....We might benefit more from recruiting the 'straight'
players they might have signed.....

I'm sure the kids who took money have been put on notice (or their parents). It's likely those kids won't be eligible for a year anyway and by that time they're in the NBA.

Are these the rent-a-player recruits.
They only play a year or two then jump to the pro's.
I'd be OK with that...how many players of that caliber have we had at TU? Plus, if you get one like that, you get 3-4 others of the 4* ilk who aren't going to jump because they aren't quite that ready. Ala OSU building around Marcus Smart and bringing in some other great players and one Oompa Loompa

Kentucky lately. They win, but its hard to identify with your team when the players are one-and-done

We’re not getting 5-6 one and dones each year like Kentucky has since Cal got there. I said I’d be OK with one. If we got one we get the good role players around him to come as well. The Joseph Forte’s and Markel Browns. The guys that take you from NCAA tournament team to Sweet 16 every year (provided you have a half decent coach....needed to throw that in there because Ford couldn’t coach himself out of a phone booth).

Bigger question is where are all the OSU fans to pokesplain this to us?

The worst thing that could happen to OSU is with all these NCAA investigators hanging around, would be even more infractions discovered and Boynton would then have to be replaced at midseason. That's why I think they should be proactive and do the replacing now. Strike "before" the iron gets hot so to speak. And again with Scott sitting at home, it might be one of their few options later on. Familiarity with the program would be essential. And a clean record would come next. At that point, winning and losing would take a back seat to "survival".
