Sagarin ratings are the most accurate college football ratings. Vegas betting lines are usually very close to Sagarin point differential, including home field advantage. Most years, the worst P5 conference is at least a few points better than the best G5 conference.

As of today, Sagarin shows the AAC West Divsion is better ( just barely, but still better!) than the SEC East Division !
The SEC East is : Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Missouri & Kentucky.
The AAC West is : Tulsa, Houston, Navy, Memphis, SMU & Tulane.

Please feel free to share this information with the thousands of local sports fans ( & some ignorant media members, like Michael Peters) who didn't know they've already missed several chances to see SEC LEVEL FOOTBALL IN TULSA this season.

We all have one last chance in 2016, this Friday night at 7:30 PM !

How so? Average spot of those teams in his lineup?

Each team has it's own rating. The average of each team's rating makes up the conference rating. The 6 teams in the AAC Western division have an average rating slightly higher than the 7 teams in the SEC Eastern Division.

Yes I'm familiar with Sagarin and since he doesn't do divisional ratings, was curious as to how you were personally calculating.

Thanks for that! Have never seen it broken out by division. Interesting.

TBH I'm not sure how useful a metric Sagarin is for evaluating "strength" or current status. It's a score predictor that looks a lot like opening lines, but like Vegas is on the wrong side about as much as the right.

For example, Navy is 4th in the AAC West.

So we're about dead even on a score predictor on a neutral field. Top to bottom do I think we'd finish .500 against SEC East in reality? Matched up 1-6, Tulsa and Navy are the only teams that would be favored.

For comparison sake, from 2007-2015 the conference (or the division from 2012-15) that Tulsa was a member of, was rated anywhere from 5-15 points per team below the lowest rated P5 conference.

This was a breakout season for the AAC, especially the AAC West. Let's hope we can keep it up.

THIS season, Tulsa was is a very good conference & a lot of sports fans in Tulsa have missed seeing very good football here in Tulsa.

This point of reference clarifies how impressive this truly is. I've felt like there's good teams in this division, the numbers help put it in perspective.

I'll take the AAC side & point out that 4 of 6 AAC teams are ranked in the top 50, & only 2 of 7 SEC teams are ranked in the Top 50. Bottom line is we actually have an argument.

Sagarin's not alone on an island. My rating of choice is FEI, which has 4 of 6 AAC teams favored over their SEC East counterpart.

Tennessee (23) Houston (17)
Florida (28) Tulsa (35)
Georgia (56) Memphis (36)
Vanderbilt (58) Navy (42)
South Carolina (80) SMU (67)
Missouri (84) Tulane (89)
Kentucky (91)

Let's make those games happen. On a neutral field I think Houston/Tennessee is no contest and I would love to see TU tee it up against the Gators.
