Some thoughts:

Things I liked hearing -

Mentioned several times about alignment from the board, President Carson, campus, and athletics. That’s a great thing. I know it hasn’t always been like that. With that alignment, there are some barriers removed that could impede success.

Mentioned that TU has more money than he expected to compete in this revenue sharing initiative. That’s great news.

Focused on importance of having resources at that matched up with the top of the league, but said for sure he can’t expect his coaches to win conference championships when they are funded at the bottom of the league.

Something that concerned me -

There seems to be a subtle message that has come from the athletic department in a number of spades, not just this interview, but it was mentioned again here: the “we aren’t competing with Ohio state or Texas A&M” line. Now obviously we aren’t in the B1G or the SEC, but what’s made Tulsa athletics special for a century is our ability to punch above our weight and take some pelts of those types of teams. Unfortunately, from what it SEEMS like, TU is trying to softly admit that we’re fine with being essentially FCS+ with the other G6 schools. If we’re removed from being able to have a chance at the college football playoff, it’s going to be hard to care or take TU football seriously… because it won’t really matter anymore. Now maybe I’m reading too much into that, but it’s something that I’ve noticed for months.

I guess I’m just concerned about us being left behind and we’re being fed a slow stream of cope to soften the blow and make it seem like it’s totally fine.
