Player improvement

Have to admit all these guys have improved a lot during their TU careers.

Jackson
Horne
Korita

Jackson in particular is a remarkable story.
I like the three selections....AND one of the biggest is Hill....His handle
(one of the best we have had in a long time), passing, and shooting
are all much better....His biggest improvement? His defense....I watched
a replay today and paid particular attention to him....He was everywhere,
and very effective in being disruptive.....

Our best freshman point in a very long time.....

Actually, I think that Hill and Horne's overall improvement are two big reasons
for our current success.....We are putting a group of well rounded players on
the floor now....

Igbanu improved from when he first got here, and then devolved a bit. I'm not trying to be a negative nelly after last nights game, but the one player who I thought could improve the most from last night was Igbanu.

He was realizing he had a lane to the basket a little late, and then freezing for like a half second when he did realize it. But I think the team was getting him open lanes more often than usual, and he just wasn't as aware that he had lanes more often. In fact as soon as he did see it and froze for a millesecond, the expression on his face was like a stunned and surprised deer.

He gets in habits, and seems to have a hard time breaking them, like almost never seeing an opening and going straight up with no fakes. His fakes cause him as much trouble as they help him. He's just not as immediately aware as he needs to be. He acts like 6 people are in his way when they are not. He played well last night but he could have equaled Horne's scoring if he improved on this. He would have had a lot more old fashioned 3 pt opportunities.

I could have added Hill to the list or even Joiner if thinking of this season only. Hill has certainly come far in a short time.

Those 4 and 5 star players on Memphis didn't bother Hill at all. He had several on his Number 1 summer team.

Jackson is very special. He’s come so far. It says a lot about the garbage some our hateful posters spew. People can change and improve.

Horne also has come a long way.

No one talks about Joiner. He’s effective now. Didn’t used to be the case.

A player improvement thread and in short order we are talking about
seven different players....Wow! I have always felt that when you see a
team improving as a unit and seeing individual players improving
enough that it is very evident, you are seeing a coaching staff that is
working hard and doing a good job....

Indeed, as W.C. Fields would have said, Jackson may be the epi-tome
of this trend.....He truly has improved in all respects......

i think you have those three in the correct order.

This is the first season I thought Korita has actually helped much. He's doing the best he can and will probably end up being a D1 coach somewhere. Heady player.

Jackson by far the most improved over the past few years.

When Joiner came in I thought he would be a scorer, but has turned into a nice point.

And you can tell they are working hard to improve individually and as a team.

I would like for him to be a scorer and stop turning down open shots. Hill is the PG (at least for a lot of the minutes) He doesn't have the strength of Joiner so Joiner has to share duties.

Hill didn’t do much today. Like him in the lineup.

He's a freshman, it will be two steps forward, one step back.

He has a great sense of the floor and throws some very catchable passes that set his teammates up to score. He is still adjusting to the speed and occasionally will make a pass that he could get away with in high school but not division 1. He's going to be a good one, I still don't think I have seen big eyes from him. Just needs more experience.

Joiner is playing his best basketball... he has been remarkable of late on both ends - especially on the defensive front.
I said it in a different thread....Joiner is our floor general. I think he keeps everyone settled down despite him being an very emotional player himself.

How about the whole team's defense for most improved? Here's a quote from everyone's favorite former & current power forward(after dropping 28 on UCONN) in today's Tulsa World: "Defense is the key. We don't even think about the offense". Aaaaah! Sweet music to our ears.
