Otero JC guard has Tulsa at the top of his list -- story linked

He looks like he might be a decent to solid back up guard. Don't see much star potential there, but hopefully he could end up giving us a couple of years of Tim Peete type grit and solid determination. I was kinda hoping we'd get a guard with a little more talent than this guy, but after everybody else Haith's bringing in, I'll give him a hall pass on this. If we got a commitment here, it looks like maybe Haith would wait around to see if a decent graduate student shows up in the form of a SG/Wing, and call it a good day. (Even if one doesn't show up interested in us.) The solid defender aspect might a good thing.

Gmoney your first statement says it all " looks like he might be a decent back up guard". In my opinion that is not what we should be looking for...I hope this is not an indication that we are just settling for 2 rate players just to fill spots if so its going to be a very long year next year.

This is the ONLY that even resembles that. Looking at everyone of our other commits, not one of them looks like a 'second rate player'. That's why I said I'd give him a pass. He would come in as a sophomore which is probably one of the reasons Haith paid a little more attention to him. Don't think fillling spots is going to make it a long season. The team being young and most of them not having played with each other might though.

I believe Holland would come in as a junior. This is his 2nd year at Otero.

It said his Senior year was 2014, that he played at Otero in 2015, I just assumed 2016 would be his sophomore year.

"He averaged 20 points per game for the class 4A runner-up Tigers as a senior in 2014."

From Otero's site. Also, he has NJCAA stats from his freshman year.

Must of been a typo, should have said 2013 senior year. Thanks for clearing that up.

I found some more video from Otero JC that I hadn't looked at b4 I posted yesterday. This guy doesn't look too bad. He might not be a star, but he may be a bit more of a solid player than what I saw of him on tape yesterday.

Sometimes confusing:

2013-2014 season generates a 2014 graduating class
2014-2015 season --Juco Fr.
2015-2016 season --Juco Soph.
2016-2017 season --?? Jr.

So his HS graduating class was indeed 2014....

Yeah, I'm so used to thinking in sports seasons on this board, that I wasn't even thinking in terms of graduation from an institution of education. Alas, I look the fool.
