OSU

Arkansas Montecello or something like that. Won their conference and made it to the D2 tourney last year. Still...shouldn’t struggle like that for the first 25 minutes or so against a D2 team. OSU’s perimeter D was pretty weak and got very little offensively from their bigs.

Illinois lost to a D2 team tonight btw.

Mabey frank should hire you for a scout for our game in Stillwater! Lol
If that's true, we need Junior to have a big game. We really need that win because we won't have much more opportunity for a key win before conference

How'd Kendall Smith look?

Didn’t shoot well but he’s a big physical point guard who can get in the lane. Nice distributor of the ball. He started over Averette. Would have looked good in a TU uni this year.

Lawpoke, how was their attendance? Do you think the possible NCAA sanctions will effect that?

I still think the worst thing that could happen is if they have to make changes at the top in the middle of the season. IMO they need a backup plan and backup coach if that occurs.

No idea about attendance. Didn’t attend. Watched on TV. Assume it was poor. Attendance will be almost solely effected by Ws and Ls. They were the unanimous pick for last place in the conference so it could be a long poorly attended season.

No fallout from the NCAA as of yet. All players are currently cleared to play. We will see what transpires over the next few months.

His name is Scott Sutton

Getting fired from ORU and then falling into the OSU gig? Sutton must be rubbing that lucky rabbits foot daily.

Sutton was a pretty darn good coach until ORU instituted the "faith test" to determine whether a kid could receive a ship. OSU has two players out until mid-December which will play key roles come conference time. Dillard is out with a broken foot and Sima is a mid-year transfer. Even with those guys I have a hard time seeing this squad as an NCAA team. The conference is just too good and deep.

The merits of the faith test and whether it made a hill of beans have been disputed. I think it’s a case of staying somewhere too long and then running out of good ideas for recruiting. We ought to think about him when we lament all our coaching changes. Some of these guys need to move on for self preservation.

I think he’s a good coach and probably more qualified than the one OSU hired. But he got kind of lazy the last few years at ORU. There was no momentum in that program.

I think "kind of lazy" is probably being kind. He was at odds with the new Pres and convinced himself he couldn't win under the circumstances he was told to work under. Unfortunately for him when he wanted out those schools who were once calling were calling no more. He knows basketball and should be a solid assistant. Don't think there's any doubt he's more qualified than Boynton. Attendance will be awful this season in Stillwater. There is zero excitement. Amazing what can happen to a program in a 12 month span.

I don’t think he didn’t try to do his job. He certainly had issues with the administration, which goes back to my point about staying somewhere too long. He had the misfortune of being there after all the mismanagement and misfeasnace by Richard Roberts was discovered. I imagine the support for athletics changed as the school tried to get back in the black and the power structure evolved.

After seeing us and them in exhibition play ( which I know is hard to judge by) but who would you give the edge to when we play them?

I’m probably the worst person to ask. I’ve picked this game wrong the last 3 meetings. Let’s watch both teams openers on Friday and then discuss. Exhibitions are generally pretty worthless for team evaluation purposes. Even after Friday’s games it might be hard to know what OSU will look like come mid December because Sima isn’t currently eligible.

I think Eastern Illinois is D1, but nonetheless, dropping an exhibition game 80-67 is a bad loss, especially for new head coach. I thought the reaction from IU twitter acct. was really soft and hilarious. Losing to an instate directional school for the new sheriff is rarely a good experience. :p
