Normally I would post this in the non-pay side but I overheard a phone conversation waiting for my daughter’s dance class to be over. Paul Mills was on the phone with, presumably, one of his assistant coaches (and if it wasn’t an assistant it was an associate AD) visibly and audibly frustrated with recruiting and some of the constraints placed on him. He said “they talk about Kennedy like he’s all league and he’s not even a starter really. Then we have to back off on a kid because of something he put on Twitter <inaudible number> years ago. I think we really need to hold onto him and just let Mike (assuming Mike Carter, ORU AD) know he’s gonna have to fight for us on him if they want us to be competitive.”

I knew recruiting had gotten harder there. I’ve had conversations with Mike Carter as recently as January about some of the obstacles they have in recruiting under Billy. But apparently recruits seem to have to be approved before they can be offered. I can tell you it’s not ORUs stringent entrance requirements that they are not meeting muster on.

If Billy stays his entire 10 yrs I’m pretty sure ORU will drop athletics altogether. Mike Carter is the only thing holding that off right now because he’s paying the bills, but as soon as he decides to retire I think ORU is done playing sports at the NCAA level.
