Official HC Speculation Thread

They only spend about $2.5 million on NIL, and they are having issues with money in general at the moment. So, it would likely take a rallying of their $$$ resources to get the buyout done this year. He is supposed to be "untouchable" for another year. My wife and father in law are OSU grads/donors. He even goes to Gundy's "farm" for get together.

He asked me about us getting rid of Wilson at Thanksgiving, so I about Gumby. The answers were actually kinda hard not to smile at considering the big buck facade they have up.

My wife and I do have an interesting house divided lol. TU vs. OsU.... we are still trying to find a plate and shirts haha!
Saw the pool Gundy has, has a water slide and the whole bit. He put it back up on Zillow for sale two weeks ago, you know there's been some special Stillwater fun going on there in the summer.

Graham should be interviewed…
Todd Graham brought in the greatest overall talent at TU since the 1940's . Even then some posters
thought he was too gruff and mean to the players, never mind the successful seasons we had under
his regime. I never saw his players"give up" during a game or season like this 2024 bunch , it's hard
to comprehend getting beat six times by over 30 points unless there is a talent shortage .

Okay... we bring in a highly successful local High School coach... I mean we bring in a former player... I mean we bring in someone from Texas with recruiting ties... I mean the HUNH offensive guru during the Grahm era is available... I mean Todd is available right?

To the extent people had problems with Graham, it was bc his teams couldn't play defense and he couldn't win the big game. I think people would have preferred that he not be as much of an A hole but I don't recall anyone saying he should be fired or anything

The reason given seems very minor to me. He read an inappropriate word, I’m assuming the n word, that was on a player’s iPad.

IDK about Gundy but usually if something seems borderline it's bc the employer only discloses the tip of the iceberg. Everyone, including the employer, looks bad if the full iceberg is disclosed so it's self-preservation by all sides. My vote is no sloppy seconds from OSU. Ever.

From what I recall, he used the word multiple times after reading it on the I-pad. I believe that coach Venables confirmed that part of the story when accepting his resignation.

I would be interested to see if we reach out to someone like Alley or Albin if Brennan isn't available.

This is going to be a very unpopular and unlikely scenario, but what if Lincoln Riley comes available and we're running out of options due to another botched hiring process? Would he take the chance to redeem his image? We have discussed a gumby, so just for laughs...?

I saw that Albin is a finalist for the Charlotte job.

Not sure on Alley.

Even if Riley were available and we were interested he would cost a lot more than would be worth it. I also don’t think he’d do well here.

My advice: There are hundreds of coaches and assistant coaches out there past and present, you don't need to take a guy with baggage that can be used against him during recruiting periods unless he brings some otherworldly talent to the table. Cale Gundy might be a decent coach, but there are quite a few other guys how could be good who don't have that baggage. I don't mind second chances, but given our recent track record with giving guys second chances (Haith, Wilson, and to some degree Konkol & Montgomery come to mind) I don't think we need to try it again just to try it.

Haith & Wilson yes, Monty sort of, but not really. We gave Monty a first chance when no one had given him that chance for years. Konkol wasn't a second chance. It was a promotion to a better school when he was doing fairly well in his first job as head coach. That's not a second chance in anyone's book except maybe yours.

I just hope the same "selectors" near the A.D. are not involved this time. Let him make his own decision and then get the OK from Carson and keep others out. I know Arkansas had "selectors" but they were named John Tyson $ 5 MIL a year to Cal and Wal-Mart several MIL. If we have that money, I might reconsider some influence.

If I remember correctly Cayden was pretty dialed in last football coaching search and for the last basketball coaching search.

Symons and Spavital have interviewed along with two others. Moore was in Texas yesterday for another interview.

Thanks for the information ey1294. It’s been very hard to get many updates with this search. I’m honestly not thrilled with the names, although Symons might be OK.

He’s got a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon tie to Malzahn and Norvel.
