Official 2015 Meltdown thread..

I am not going to melt down. Worst defense in FBS last year, there is no "Spring Fix" for that :D

Our D is exhausted in this heat and lopsided time of possession. Offense has to grind out more time with the ball.

I was gonna melt hard in the 3rd quarter but decided to let it play out.

I feel like we'll win 4 games this year. Dane locks on 1 read most of the time and throws it whether or not its open. Against half decent defenses, Keevan won't be able to run past defenders as easily and will require better throws from Dane. That one wide open TD pass when the FAU DB fell down was a terrible pass that Keevan pulled down with an amazing catch. He did make good throws, but the 3rd and 3 in the first half where he threw it behind and low to our TE was just terrible. That pass should be right on the numbers for a first down. Dane is just a below average quarterback that relies on our WR talent and has virtually no play making ability when read #1 isn't open. I REALLY hope Monty tries another QB this year. Great grabs from Keevan and Keyarris once again in single coverage.

Brewer did well grinding and so did Langer, solid 1/2 punch at RB. hopefully the fumble was an aberration from brewer. would have liked to see more push from the offensive line though. not many holes formed between the tackles.

The defense is just slow and, well, kind of dumb. I just don't understand why our DBs play 10-15 yards off the WR when its 3rd and 5. I suppose that's coaching and it's happened here for the last many years. We don't have much strength or talent it seems on defense, especially at DB. we also had a terrible time wrapping up and tackling. different year, different coach, same story on defense. We need bigger, stronger bodies that can wrap up.

We had 41 points and almost 600 yards of offense before OT. Dane threw for over 420 yards and averaged more than 20 yards per completion. And we won, which ain't nothing after the last few years. With a completely new offense and staff. I kinda feel like people are so much in the habit of complaining that they don't know what else to do. I think this was a very good first game.

Let's talk d lines. I thought FAU had a terrific d line. Their left tackle abused us I thought we were in real trouble when Gladd went done late in the first half. One of the biggest factors in the game was the huge # of holds and hits to face called on their o line. Give our guys credit for that. They couldn't block our guys. Despite giving up lots of yards, I thought our Front 4 did great. All those holds don't happen in a vacuum. They also looked fresh at the end. Finally, I hope Smith is OK.

you remember last years first game right? i mean i like wins, but its still FAU by the skin of our teeth. I want conference championships again, not getting lucky when FAU has 200 yards of penalties against them. i remember being excited last year beating tulane. I'll wait to get excited if we can keep OU within 3 TDs.

I guess if you were hoping for a conference championship this year then I can see why you're disappointed. But that was a delusional expectation, there's only so much progress we could make on D and with as hideous as we were last year, even the best case wouldn't be enough. It'll take a couple years.

But if you're ranking our issues, I don't think Dane makes the top 10.

We won't hold OU to 3 TDs, but much better TU teams than this haven't done that.

Hey, the cupboards were not left with championship type talent when your fellow league coaches vote you 12th in a 12 team league. Hurricane Monty can is bring all new both offensive and defensive schemes this year. We won ...be thankful for the win! Let's hope this team continues to give 100% and doesn't give up. Rebuilding will take time. This is basically the same D that gave up 52 points to FAU last year and it could have been worse it FAU hadn't played their 2nd team, walk-ons. and scrubs for most of the second half. Good game! Good win! GO TU!

Thats fair. I just need to let go of the days of Paul and David...

The guy who played QB today? I would not have recognized him at all if his name was not on the jersey. Below average QB? I suppose it is all relative. But the QB today is better than the guy last year by a mile...or at least 424 yards.

All these complaints about the quarterback, and not one of them mentioned his completion percentage of close to 64%. I don't remember what his average was last year, but I'm damned certain it wasn't 64%.

Honestly all of my pessimism stems from being a young TU fan during the GJ/Paul/David years and damn good football. Now it's just struggling to get to 4 wins a year and it drives me nuts.

I was just thinking about how similar this game was to last year's opener. It is a fair comparison. But, Dane just looked better. Same yardage, sure. But it took him 20 less pass attempts today. He is better.
thats why its hard to get my hopes up.

Struggling to get four wins for two years. We have been through much worse than that. We moved back to Tulsa in 2000 and bought our season tickets. Try living through two one win seasons and then we can. I have seen amazing football at 11th and Harvard in my 43 years and I have no doubt that I will see it again. Riley, Frerotte, Penn, Ostroski, Gage, Mills, Chamberlain and many others have come and gone and many more will come and go. This administration has shown more commitment to athletics than any other I have seen. Upping the ante to bring Montgomery and Haith in, the indoor practice facility and many other exciting things happening. We will win consistently again and I don't think it will be long. Last year we got worse with each game and this year I anticipate us getting better each game.

Am I supposed to complain ? Can't do it? A win is a win ! There will always be something to work on that's the coaches job! I'll take a win any way I can get it 10-9,47-45 . Let's go beat New Mexico!

There were a large number of holds that went uncalled as well. One in OT was so blatantly obvious and missed with the Ref looking right at the play. Brubaker is an absolute beast and their center had a tough time blocking him. It got into his head as there were a number of poor snaps.

Our D is still learning and when FAU did try a play action, we usually crashed down and left the outside open. Caught us on the read-option a couple of times as well. Mudoh said during the post game that they had prepared for FAU to run a lot of heavy power, which I assume a lot of run between the tackles with dual TEs and that FAU's game plan was really different than what they game planned for.

No melt. Last year this game would have been over when FAU went up 31-21. This team kept fighting. The coaches adjusted and we kept plugging away. This team will be fine. Clean up the missed tackles on D.

Ya, this game would have been a lot more under control if we had just cut down on some of the miscues. The do inked field goal and the fumble on our own 20 stand out to me as plays that really were preventable. Brewer will probably get an earful for that in the film room and at practice. We probably win by 10 in regulation if it wasn't for those plays.

As far as Dane goes, when he has decent pass protection he's doing a good job "taking what the defense gives him" and "giving his guys a chance to make a play" which are both things we heard Monty preaching in the preseason. The problem is, on the 2 interceptions (especially the second one) the receivers did very little to play the ball.

Other than that we just need the defense to work on tackling physically instead of lunging arm tackles and trying to jab the ball out to create fumbles. BY's defense relies on creating turnovers and we have to work on getting that ball on the ground.

Hobbs could have broken up that second interception. Although he also dropped a sure TD pass, I like a 6-5 guy that can run. He may be a force down the road.

I felt both INTs were this way. WR needs to fight for the ball in both those instances. And I agree, once the tackling is cleaned up, the D won't be all that bad.
