Numbers

Production from the 3 spot has been a real weakness this season. In my opinion, Haith needs to diminish Birt and Korita's minutes and go big with Taplin, Henderson, Etou, Igbanu, and Edogi. With Wheeler and Magnay coming off the bench. That's a solid 7 man rotation. Or, give Atson, Battle, and Artison extended minutes. What's happening now is not working. He's got to mix things up somehow.

Numbers from last 6 games:

Birt: 8-52 FG. 6-27 3pt. 8 Assists/13 Turnovers. 28 min/game

Korita: 2-19 FG. 1-14 3pt. 6A/3TO. 12 min/gm

That's a combined 10-71 FG, 7-41 3pt, and 14 assists to 16 turnovers. Those are absolutely horrendous #'s. It's difficult to watch when you know there's talent on the bench. We're looking to the future and we need to develop what we have that will be back next year.
I would like to know wheeler, Henderson and taplins shooting %.

Wheeler .455 FG. .333 3pt
Taplin. .407 FG. .389 3pt
Henderson. .364 FG .321 3pt
Birt. .303 FG .299 3pt
Korita. .278 FG. .267 3pt

Wheeler .455 FG. .333 3pt
Taplin. .407 FG. .389 3pt
Henderson. .364 FG .321 3pt
Birt. .303 FG .299 3pt
Korita. .278 FG. .267 3pt

Their ft % are:
Wheeler .705
Taplin .833
Henderson .818
Birt .762
Korita .867

Probably the best ft shooting guards we've had in some time.

Birt .762
Korita .867

Which is why I have been amazed at how poor the overall guard shooting has been

I wish there was a stat category for 3ptrs allowed from the corner. I'm confident we are last in the country in that stat.
it is because we are still playing help defense. it was needed last year, but not so much this year. play man and switch only on screens. do not leave your man to help inside. if the bigs can not defend sub for someone who can.

Even playing man, generally all teams play "help" defense. Not sure exactly what you mean. If teams didn't play any help defense, there'd be layup after layup. I haven't seen a lot of the threes coming from us helping inside, ala doubling the post/swiping at all. It's been mostly mental lapses or simply lazy closeouts. The corner threes have seemed to happen most often when we're in zone. When playing zone, teams typically designate who's going to cover the corner, whether it be the guards on the wing or the post. Vs. Cincy, at least twice our guards on the wing were late to contest when in zone. On one of the other open corner threes, Etou ran out to contest. So I'm not sure who Haith wants covering the corner in his zone defenses, but we clearly have not learned how to play help and recover defense. Attribute this to coaching, inexperience, or effort?

you are correct. all defenses must have help defense, but when we play zone it seems like the guards and wings drop down too far to the middle and do not release to the corners in time. we play a 1-2-2 and a 2-3 which in mo leaves the middle open which causes these deep drops to the middle. I would like to see a 2-1-2 which moves the center up in the middle instead of farther back in the 2-3. you are correct in that help and recover defense is most important. mo.

Some of the problem is reaction time/quickness of our guards. Our close outs or recovering from help defense very slow.
