New Court Design

Why am I not surprised that you do? I guess the defense of Haith for years just goes to show that you're willing to put up with suboptimal products. Why not just go all out if you're bungle the skyline. Put the Empire State Building or the Burj Khalifa on there.
Yes you’ve mentioned that I supported haith… several times - How dare I support a TU coach!

As far as the court goes, it doesn’t really matter what I think, the vast majority of reactions on Facebook and Twitter to it have been very positive. If it excites alumni who haven’t been interested before or gets a random fan to come check it out, then it’s done it’s job.

THIS^ If the perspective of the skyline is so distracting to you that you would decide not to go to a game...the problem isn't the floor...it's you. It's new and a little different and it's trying to tie into the marketing mantra of the last 2-3 years that this is Tulsa's team. BTW Aston, if you haven't been back to Tulsa in a few years, you'd realize there have been a good number of additions to the Tulsa skyline, particularly on the north side of downtown around the OneOk Field developments. BTW, the Tulsa skyline from OneOK is amazing...but it's still 2nd place as I consider the best view of downtown Tulsa to be from the steps of McFarlin Library overlooking the Hardesty Sports complex with downtown framed in the background. You catch it at the right time during sunset and it's a work of art in real life

So...in that Twitter thread, the QT account tweeted at Carson and the floor seems to be missing something and Carson responded

BRILLIANT BRAD CARSON! And the thread of fans after it asking QT to bring QT kitchens on campus and to sign them up for that. Seriously, QT Kitchens at concessions stands on either side of Skelly and you might get people coming just for that.

Need to do something about that stupid Sodexo contract. Replace the CAF with more restaurant options. Have QT kitchens run the concessions at games. No more bad forced meal plans for freshman and sophomores.

You complain about everything, and can't figure out why people keep pointing it out.

It doesn't have to do with care and attention. You will find something to complain about regardless.

Maybe you might think about proofreading your posts to determine if they are complaints for awhile. I don't post 2 posts out of every dozen posts for similar reasons. I think you do it constantly, partly out of stubbornness. I say this knowing that pointing this out will make you even more stubborn, if possible.

You have some of the nicer more mild mannered guys on this board chiming in from time to time, and you still don't get it.(I'm not one of those guys.)
I know why you point it out. You don’t realize that I simply don’t care about your opinion of me.

My opinion is my opinion and I’m not going to change it simply because it annoys you. And I’m not going to be quiet just because it annoys you. In all honesty the fact that it annoys you just makes me think I’m right when I see that your (not Specifically you G$$$ but a collective ’your’) bad opinions have led to a middling program.

In this situation I said the floor was ‘ok’ because I respect that they tried something novel even if the execution was imperfect. Novel solutions are what a program that’s stuck in mediocrity needs to build inertia. So they did a good job there, but attention to detail is important to give your novel ideas the best probability of working.

I know that. In my opinion the best view of downtown is from the TU football Press box. Followed by from McFarlin. Those views look nothing like this skyline (though I can see aesthetically why they would include a couple more buildings that you don’t see from those views)

No one is coming to a game because of the floor. It might be a small factor in terms of fan retention.

I knew you'd find a way to prove to yourself you are right. Our bad opinions are not bad, and they have not led to a middling program. The Universities decisions have. And the opinion of the persons who selected the court(not mine or any other posters) at the university, has nothing to do with the program being middling. They could have painted an identical court to Memphis over the years and it wouldn't affect the quality of the program, middling or not.

Go be an ORU fan, and annoy them. I know you believe in the lord. What an insufferable piece of a crap you are. Can't imagine you at a party. You just don't care that you are an annoying twat that nobody wants to talk to, and everybody walks the other way. I'll keep hassling you, because I know it annoys you. If you are going to annoy us, then I'll do my bit, make you look the fool, and annoy you as much as possible. I've always kind of felt sorry for you, that you are who you are. Such that I tried to give you good advice in between pointing out your inadequacies.(shown by your complaining and whining 24/7) I knew you'd never take anybody's advice, but I gave it anyway. I'll just point out the fool from now on.

Once again quit trying to convince us paying attention to detail is your reason of complaint. Your complaint has nothing to do with the details.

The skyline is ok. The buildings are a bit weird. Can’t tell what is up with the BOK tower which is square topped And the tallest of them all. Some of the smaller buildings are just shapes that dont really exist in the skyline.
I don’t think it’s supposed to be a true skyline but more showing all of the buildings in downtown in rough N/S placement.
I’m not 100% but, I thought the same as you until I really looked at it.
So many new buildings on the E and N sides of downtown make driving in from those directions or circling the IDK really cool!

The floor looks good, and I'm glad to see that the newly emphasized theme "TU is Tulsa's team" is
depicted via the skyline.......I think that association being brought front and center will wear well.....

We will have a new floor, A new coach with a new outlook, and a partially new team.....This team
will be less experienced than our recent ones, but comes with intriguing potential......It will be fun
watching them develop......

Brad and Chet Cadieux (does he still run QT?) graduated together and were friends in HS so there is a pre-existing relationship there, in addition to the fact that I suspect Brad, being Brad, has now tried to meet and know every business owner with a business over $10m in the Tulsa metro as part of his presidentially duties...

OK...you have no idea how economics at a university works. They did completely revamp most of the Student Union dining commons and the food offerings. It's actually pretty good and probably a lot more than what one could reasonably expect at a university the size of TU. Second, they have redone the Pat Case Dining Center (formerly the cafeteria from Saved by the Bell) at least 2x since I left TU as a member of the housing staff. They're not going to ever eliminate the dining requirement for FR and SO as long as they have an on campus living requirement for FR and SO.

As for QT Kitchens running concessions, I'm all for that.

Never had an issue with the student union. The offerings there were always good and presumably have gotten better. The problem was the cafeteria was very mediocre most of the time, and the meal plans forced you to eat there as a FR and SO. It sucked as an engineering student having to go across campus for inferior food when the student union was right next door.

I don't think we will ever see concession improvements as long as Sodexo is involved. I don't know exact details of the contract, but essentially all food services on campus have to go through them or have their approval. I can't imagine them letting QT just come in and run all future concessions. It's been almost a decade since I was a student though, maybe things have gotten better.

At least the atmosphere in the dining hall is better than what it used to be and more than a HS cafeteria which is what it was like from the time I was a student in the 90s until I stopped working at TU in 2008. From my time working in housing and dining at TU and ORU (who is also a Sodexo school) and having a direct supervisor with a keen understanding of dining operations, they do what they are able to do. Meal plan pricing is a balance of keeping costs down where they can, projecting how much food they should make for any given meal, and providing the best quality they can and finding the price point where it doesn't become the sorest of sticking points. The 2 areas with the most complaints on ANY college campus is housing and dining. Why? Because it's not your own bedroom and home and your mom/dad are not cooking every meal that is tailored to what you like. Plus when you're prepping a meal for potentially 1000 diners every meal, of course there is a little bit of loss of the home cooked quality. Believe it or not, when I worked at Baylor in 1998-1999, the food in the cafeterias was way worse than TU (and more expensive on the a la carte side).

As for the concessions. I think TU could rework their agreement with Sodexo for that side of things. The threat of seeking out new bids for dining services might loosen them up a bit.

Bro, you go to games and you give money.... and it has been (mostly) wasted. Congratulations?

Why give money to someone just to watch them light it on fire in front of your face... when you already owe them more money on top of the amount you gave them?

There has to be some trust and responsibility shown before they earn my money. The admin and programs seem to be moving in a better direction, but I don't just forget years of dogcrap and being told to 'trust the process' when I was justifiably upset with the direction we were headed in.

Good Lord. ASSTOWN, why are you such a clown to someone who is clearly dedicated and giving their money to the program in hopes of making it better. That's how this thing works. I actually overhead Carson and Dickson saying "We aren't going to get asstown's money until we gain his trust!!"...you're not that important brah.

You think I'm the only person who feels that way? You can cry about it and get your feelings hurt, or you can realize that it's the reality for a lot of people who you are trying to attend a game. Keep alienating fans because they don't wear the same shade of Blue and Gold glasses that you do. Smart.

But I do, or you wouldn't write that.

You tune out and/or become belligerent and/or wine about anything that doesn't agree with you.
You feel compelled to disagree because everybody is agreeing.

You gotta get the last word, so go ahead, I'll give you the last word.

If they get it mostly right, you'll always find something to disagree with. Thus you'll never give them money.

I don't think so. I'm just looking for being right more often than being wrong within a span of 1-2 years. Also, this has nothing ultimately to do with the court design.... which I couldn't really give a damn about other than it irks me that the major building that dominates the skyline is off.

Getting rid of Haith was a good first step. Konkol was an above average hire. They're trending in the right direction. I just need to see the momentum kept up and increased if anything.

TU doesn't administer loans...

Also, maybe if you're going to hold a grudge against the university for costing what it costs, you should've gotten better scholarships or gone somewhere less expensive. When things are always someone else's fault, it is usually because you haven't looked in the mirror.

Honest question, are you a TU sports fan? Or do you just like coming onto the boards to complain about things?

A) You are wrong. They administer Perkins Loans. Look it up. It's jointly administered by the Uni and the Government, and it won't be discharged under the new program.

B) I hold a grudge against Tulsa and many other Universities for upping their tuition beyond what it was when I or other students was initially enrolled. It's not just Tulsa. Tulsa was just playing the same dirty game as everyone else. I'm paying them their money.

C) Yes, I would argue I'm as big, or bigger a TU sports fan than anyone on this board. More so basketball, but I certainly follow football and some of the other sports when they're doing well too. I check the stats fairly regulagly, keep up with the recruiting, watch as many games as I can (or as I can stand when we're exceptionally bad). If I lived in Tulsa I would probably have season tickets to basketball and football no matter what.

There's no doubt being an alum and fan of TU has been hard. Pretty much every decision Janet Levitt made was an affront to humanity. 18 years of Wojick and 12 years of Frank are unforgivable. You'd be hard pressed to be more pissed at TU than I was. But there's a new guy at the top and he's not responsible for what happened before him. I think we should try to suspend disbelief and approach this with a neutral viewpoint. Can't carry the baggage of prior regimes around forever. Nobody has to wear blue and gold glasses but I'm trying to at least not assume everything is crap, which was a reasonable approach for quite a while, but I'm being open to seeing what will happen.

Cool. I'm not mad about the loan itself. I'm mad about what it was necessary for.... and even if it did expire for new loan seekers.... it's still being paid by myself and others from my generation.

If he wasn't whining he wouldn't know what to do with himself. He picks an underdog school and whines when they lose. If he wanted to pay a bunch of money and whine about losing & paying, why didn't he pick Rice. It would have made him happier.(He couldn't be much whinier though.) I like how his ego tells him he's the biggest fan. Nobody does it better...

I did not go to Tulsa because of their athletic program. I find it funny that Tulsa is apparently the only program in the country where fans aren't allowed to be critical of the program. Heck, at state schools if they suffer one unexpected loss half the fanbase is gathering pitchforks.

I get jaded after 20 years of more or less mediocrity and many bad decisions and I'm the bad guy.

You should go look at the threads from when we lost the home opener in football last year and most of the basketball games this year.

There's a difference between being critical of the program and only whining and complaining about it.

It seems to be your MO, and that's fine, I genuinely don't know how you enjoy being negative/critical/whiny about everything. We just have different approaches to life, I think.

I'm not whiny about everything. As I've said many times, I don't complain much about the football program. I think the difference between me and other people is likely that I care TOO MUCH about the basketball program and how has been handled. It's mostly because I want the program to realize the potential we all know it has. (Partially, because it's more plausible to have basketball success for a school of our size and profile than it is football)

I would compare it to... Wichita State fan for complaining about the direction of their program in the 90's. They sucked. But, the fact that they expected more from every aspect of the program was legitimate because we've seen how successful the program can be when they are firing on all cylinders. I want the TU basketball program to be back to the heights of Nolan, Tubby, Self, because that's the level of potential I think we have. The biggest part of achieving that is obviously having success on the floor. It's yet to be seen if we can do that but we've made a change and it has given us that opportunity again. I'm very happy about that. Another part of what's important in getting to that point is an attention to detail when it comes to fan interaction. I think we still have room for improvement in that space.

It's annoying to me when we don't show that attention to detail because it's all on TU. If the team loses, at least we can say someone else beat us. When we do stupid stuff administering our own arena I get pretty upset because we're 100% beating ourselves.

Aston clearly loves TU, why else would he be here? Let's be honest, if he just wanted to troll, he'd go to a board with more people on it. We also see that he has love hate feelings toward TU. But after the last 15 years, how could you not? If you got through Wojick, Blankenship, Haith, Monty and Levitt without feeling like TU was fu$King up and around, then you have the soul of Gandhi. That's going to show through. I suspect a very large % of TU fans and alumni have feelings like that and reconciling that is part of Brad's job. If we're gonna have a purity test where you can't post without being bagged on unless your love of TU is pure and clean, well, we'll have even fewer posters than we do now and I don't see how that benefits anyone! I don't personally think it's unreasonable to ask Tu to stop doing so much stupid $hit, good news is the tide seems to be really turning.

Think about this - the top 5 list of "bad" things at TU doesn't even include the drunk school president who peed in the bushes. If that doesn't make your top 5, you know you've had serious problems.

It was a good move by Carson, but he might be in trouble with Huffy now!

I understand what you are saying, and share some of the same frustrations like we all do, but after reading the same complaints for the 998th time it just gets old.
