Memphis vs SMU

OU's AD, Joe Castiglione, was interviewed about selection committee information. He said they look at metrics (RPI,etc.) & non-metrics (player availability, injuries, etc). I would hope Tulsa will supply Joe C. & the rest of this year's selection committee with all the facts surrounding Coach Haith's sister's condition & the SEOSU game.

And yes, they should care & they should take that situation in to consideration as much as any player suspension or injury.

If it's Houston, Temple, Tulsa...I'd prefer that route to the champ game...not having to face SMU til the final...that said, long way to go.
You might beat TU at home, but we'll smoke you in the tournament. Your guard play cost you again last night. We're better in transition than SMU, going to be a long night for those boys tomorrow. You're undervaluing TU's run. We're 13-2 in this league. And I hope you enjoyed your run (clouded by scandal), and the first round tournament exits.. Pastner can't get Memphis where it wants to be.

That's actually not a bad point. The non-metric thing certainly has been brought up.

If saying the truth angers you to the point of calling me a troll, so be it...

Kids graduate, transfer, go pro...it means from time to time you'll have down year (and at Memphis 'down year' means the NIT)

70's - Gene Bartow lead Memphis to an NCAA Runner Up appearance with Larry Finch and Ronnie Robinson.

80's - Dana Kirk lead Memphis to 3 Sweet 16's and a Final Four with Keith Lee.

90's - Larry Finch took Memphis to an Elite Eight and a Sweet 16 with Penny Hardaway and Elliot Perry.

2000's - you guys know about Calipari's 4 year run at Memphis.

Memphis will be just fine as we have over 40 years of sustained success.

Thats fine and all but that was in.... THE PAST. Like you not caring about the Frank Haith situation; none of us care about the PAST of Memphis basketball. Even if you do or do not like Tulsa; saying you dont care about the Frank Haith situation give me another reason to hate Memphis. Thats why your little team tried to start a fight after our home game with them. Because they have a coach who cant control his players.

You know, to be fair, I haven't heard Lunardi make a peep about bad losses lately. Or anyone else for that matter.

They want to see us get quality wins down the stretch. That has been the criticism against us.

Operation leave no doubt commences tonight.

Memphis isn't having an off year, they're having an off coach. But it's the typical path for Memphis, brief spurts of quality followed by extended periods of mediocrity. Pretty typical for the teams that used to be called mid majors. Hopefully that will change in the American. We need them to get back to competitiveness to help us all move up.

Get back?

we earned the AAC an NCAA bid last season...you did not...you have not earned an NCAA bid yet, and we have not missed an NCAA bid this year yet.

stop counting chickens, and act like you've been there before.

Tiger, you mention all that success but you don't mention all of the cheating to achieve that success. How many wins from those years were vacated by the NCAA? Finch and Calipari both had a ton of wins vacated so the best I can see is Memphis was good a few years and then was nonexistent in others...according to the record books

Finch had ZERO NCAA issues, so no clue what you mean...but moreover, I couldn't care less...Win...I don't care how.

but Pastner does...his kids graduate, his team maintains a perfect APR, he'll kick you out if you step out of line (see Kuran Iverson or Jalon Kendrick)

congrats on the W, should get you boys in the NCAAs, even though that non Division 1 loss still hurts.

Dear Memphis Fan,

Do they teach integrity as a core value? You always want to win the RIGHT way.

I couldn't care less...I'm still wondering why TU_BLA is trying to talk bad about Larry Finch?

I always liked Larry Finch. I wish he would've had more success. As a kid, I remember Larry Finch & Larry Kenon leading some very good Memphis (State) teams. This was when Tulsa & Memphis played in the Missouri Valley Conference in the early 70s. IIRC, they made a Final Four, losing to UCLA.

I think the other "bad guy" Memphis coach was Dana Kirk. Regardless, I'm glad to be back in a 3rd conference with Memphis. I hope we will develop a good rivalry.

Tiger, late 80's/early 90's someone had an issue and ended up on probation and I thought it had something to do with Hardaway. There were NCAA issues before Calipari. Now if that was under a different coach than Finch I apologize. I think most of us applaud Pastner's approach and not putting up with the stuff Calipari let slide, but he is not a great X and O coach. He has a ton of talent that he has simply not been able to move beyond the 1st rd of the NCAAs consistently.

This is without doubt the most awesome argument I've ever heard. You're right, we didn't earn the AAC an NCAA bid last year, how can I argue that point?

Chico, we didn't win the AAC but we did win the conference we were in and did go to the NCAA. His argument is a little flawed.
