Memphis Fires Tubby for 21-13. We consider extension for 19-12

Christ almighty. Memphis Was going to fire him for the same reasons we fired wojcik, their stadium is basically empty and they’re losing money. Why are you starting a dumbass thread like this? Get lost tool.

Are you calling I.I. a dumbass and tool? Please be respectful to posters, especially long-time posters that have experience in college basketball and know what they are talking about.

You think the thread is dumb? Cool, that's fine, but don't be a d*ck to the good posters.

Sorry I stirred up tupatsfan......... Just thought that the philosophies of the two universities seem to be going in opposite directions. I don't know which will turn out to be right but they are polar opposites. Memphis (mediocre finishes in AAC) is betting a new coach will bring them in 4 and 5 star players immediately and were willing to shell out a 9 million buy out and probably 2-3 Million yearly for a high school AAU coach just with the hope that attendance will increase and 4 and 5 star recruits will knock each other over trying to enroll.

Tulsa seems to be betting its mediocre (non-NCAA) finishes will change with an extension and the hope of 3 and 4 star recruits banging on our door soon to increase attendance . Both schools who are shooting for the same AAC NCAA bid but are going at it differently.

I don't see a problem with stating the issues in this thread since the other thread was an "extension" thread and not a comparison of schools thread. Its OK to be irritated, pat. We are all a little irritated sitting home watching others play this week.

A similar situation happened with Houston in football before they hired that dbag Herman. They fired a coach for winning 7 or 8 games because they had higher expectations. TU would never do such a thing... it is what it is. TU will never have an athletic program that can or will do things like that unless more donors step up and we get an AD who is actually competent... both of which seem unlikely for the foreseeable future.

The irony is that we should be talking about possibly firing a Tulsa head basketball coach.

I take your main point to be the (with all due respect) painfully mundane idea that context is everything and life ain’t fair.

If you’re saying we can fire Haith and get a firmer all star nba player alumni Who’s coaching aau ball who can bring 4 and 5 star recruits, then I’m in! Let’s do it! Is that a choice?

Or do we fire Frank and then go dredging through inexperienced but so far successful coaches at tier 4 schools like Appalachian state or anonymous assistants who are a mystery at top programs like Michigan state or Kansas? Because I’m not so excited about that option.

That my friend is context.

Now, does it suck that we’re stuck with door 2? Yeah, for sure. But my advice to the young-uns complaining about Haith is the same as my advice to my kids when they see the 20,000 square foot house with indoor pool and basketball court on the lake just down the street and ask what we don’t have an indoor pool - if you want an indoor pool or to fire Haith, then get a mother f:&;97g job that pays $750k a year and we’ll build a pool. Until then, stop your bitching. So people who have envy of Memphis, stop posting, go start a side hustle company, build it into a success and sell it for $500 million and then let’s get going. Otherwise, let’s find ways to be more successful than anyone expects on the real world where we live.

Maybe we could get Wojcik to hire on as an assistant under Rod, and show him the ropes and share a handshake with fellow assistant Larry Brown at Memphis.

It doesn’t really matter who the head coach is ( well Maybe a couple of exceptions) , we will get back to the big dance with an upgrade in recruiting. If that is Haith , I am elated.

Have to sign an impact player in April.

Memphis’ basketball budget ranks 12th in the country. Ours is in the 70s. We’re both getting the 100th best team in the country every year, but they’re spending twice as much to get it.

Just irritated this thread has started AGAIN.
Then ignore it and don't lower yourself to childish standards by calling other people names that you don't ageee with. This is TU fans, don't be like an OSU fan

Tubby missed the chance to come back to Tulsa and we hired Haith instead. Wonder if he has second thoughts now.

Sounds like Pats needs to take a timeout.

What’s funneh is @goldfan83 didn’t even troll nepats this time around. That’s usually how it works. There was this group email that went o for years that I somehow was added to . . . I had a case in OKC last year and recognized the name of opposing counsel.

“Hey man, I think we are on the same crazy group email.”

“Yep.”

That’s my new carnival game - Trolling for Pats.

“A winner every time.”

I think it's fair to say...

1. Most of the posts agreed that Haith was going to be employed through his current contract.

2. Most of the posts displayed shock about even the thought of Haith getting an extension at this point.

Does Haith's performance deserve more patience through his current contract? Absolutely.

Does Haith's performance warrant a contract extension? No way.

The thing is, most people on here would be against Haith’s boss getting an extension, but guess what? We did that, too. The bar isn’t set in the right place around here.

And to think it was almost a done deal he was headed to Arkansas and Magnay was still on the team. I miss those couple of days.

Pretty crazy... Pretty crazy what TU will tolerate or be perfectly content with...

It's weird. There are sure a lot of weirdos running things these days at 11th and Harvard.

Takes one to know one . . . Seriously, do you know who the trustees are without looking? I doubt it.

I am OK with Haith. We don’t and won’t know what terms are. But Gragg is the one I just don’t get. We beat this topic to death severa months ago.

So what would you do if you were in charge? Let’s see what’s the better alternative that you want. And keep a budget of cost for it so we can see if it’s real or just a pie in the sky dream.
