I was just looking at the standings and it looks like we're pretty much locked into 7th place. To go lower we would have to lose out. To go higher we would need to win out and Memphis and/or UCF would have to lose out. Neither scenario is likely. That would mean a first round game with Tulane. We should finish two spots higher than we were predicted in the pre-season polls, and despite all the gnashing of teeth, about where most of us figured we would finish. I figured we would be 6-7.

I'm thinking we'll probably be tied for 6th with Memphis and lose the tiebreaker because of Houston. They're 1-1 we're 0-2.

Memphis hasn't played their second game against Houston yet. If they do end up 2-0 vs UH then the only way we could tie them is to win out including SMU. But you're right, ties are possible with them and UCF (heck, even with ECU) with the right combo of wins and losses but none of those are likely.

UCF has 2 games left and are two ahead in the loss column so they lose out and we win out we tie them.

We're a game behind Memphis so we could tie them if they lose to Houston and Cincinnati and beat Tulane while we beat Tulane and ECU and lose to SMU. I don't expect then to lose to the Cougars at home but it is possible.

ECU is two games behind so if they win out and we lose to SMU we could tie them but honestly I expect the pirates to lose three straight against us, UCONN, and Houston.

(Funny, it seems my autocorrect wants to replace SMU with SMUT)

I was assuming a loss to Houston. If that doesn't happen we end up alone in 7th, but I think it is definitely possible. Smut is apropos.

Winning at Tulane is going to be difficult. They're playing some good ball as of late. They should have won at Temple today but lost in double OT.

You're right, Tulane is not a gimme. We could very well end up 8-10 but feel like it will be 9-9.

I think 9-9 will tie TU with Memphis for 6th. I think (not certain) TU wins the tiebreaker because our record vs. U Conn is 1-0. Both TU and Memphis will be 0-2 vs. SMU, Cinncy and UH and 1-1 vs. UCF. I think.

Memphis split with Houston.

Memphis owns the tiebreaker over the ole Golden Hurricane.

We will need a 3-way tie for 5th to see any tiebreakers go our way.

You're correct. If we tie with Memphis, the tie breakers go head to head. We split. Then each team's record starting with the top team and going down in the standings.

If we both split with SMU, we go to Cincy. Memphis is 0-1, playing them only once. We're 0-2. Also, the 3rd place Houston beat us twice and Memphis split.

My bad. Memphis won in Hofheinz. 7th is not going to be pretty, because it likely would mean back-to-back games with Tulane, which has been on fire lately. If TU is locked in to 7th, game in New Orleans is only meaningful to avoid a losing record.

I would rather play Tulane in Conn than in N.O. Also it keeps us away from SMU and on the side of Cincy who we know can be beaten.
