Igbanu a key piece to Golden Hurricane frontcourt -- Larry Lewis

The meniscus surgery in the summer may be part of the reason his minutes were limited in the exhibitions. I don’t know about this philosophy of protecting the rim by taking charges. With the recent rule interpretation that gives an advantage to the driver, and enlarging of the arc under the basket, it makes it harder to take a charge these days, especially when you’re short on bodies.

The charging strategy wouldn't be my first choice either but I do remember Etou, Igbanu, and Korita being pretty adept last season at taking charges. Perhaps they work on it extensively in practice?

Pretty much all rules in all sports have been amended/changed/altered to positively impact the offense and scoring. It's happened in football, basketball, baseball, hockey, and even soccer

They may be adept at taking them in practice but referees always give the benefit of the doubt to the offensive player if there is a question of which way the call should go.

You're both right of course, and somewhere later in the first half, you find your
'bigs' setting on the bench with two fouls....The best defense against the drive,
and the post moves to score, is to have a rim defender (I remember that 'Blackie'
Sherrod called him the defender of last resort) that can block, deflect, or alter
those shots near the basket without fouling...That was Magnay's forte, and why
he will be missed....We simply don't have that now, and in 'packing it in' we may
still be susceptible to the three point shot.....

Defensively, I think our perimeter defenders will be considerably better than last
year, and they will need to be....They will have to cover a lot of ground.....

It's about time to play ball!
