Houston Baptist Game Thread

Omg....we are doing something right, for once in forever the people in charge are maxing out an opportunity.

These kids are hyped. They are having fun. I seriously doubt they'll ever remember the score. But they will remember a TU game was fun!

Whoever ran this game needs to keep stepping up like this.

They've done this the last 3 years.

Why didn’t we keep the same folks in the game to start off the second half that finished the first half?

Does Haith use analytics to figure out his lineups? He sits there studying his paper and scowls.

They need to be playing close to 30 min a game. I love Joiner but Hill is already a far superior PG.
You are right with this. We all like Joiner for his intensity and passion to play and he always gives A+ effort, but Hill is a natural PG and our half court offense looks so much smoother and in more rhythm than when joiner is running it.

Is this the most aggressive defense we’ve had under a Haith team? I hope they play this way every game all season. We really need transition opportunities since there’s not a single great shooter on this squad.

I want to see Hill at the 1, Joiner as a 2, and Jackson at the 3, Horne as a 4 and Igbanu as our 5 with a small line up.

Damn it Igbanu with all those missed lay ups and easy clean ups why do you not follow.

Lazy. Same reason we are losing offensive rebounds not doing the little work need to make sure we get the ball.

Igbanu didn’t miss the layup and was flagrantly fouled.

Reggie should make that but the end of the half was missed fast breaks and easy clean ups for the lead. Rinse and repeat please.

Maybe and because he knows we're not a great half court offense team, he is allowing more aggressiveness in anticipating passes and getting into the passing lanes. It works both ways though if you don't get a hand on the pass.

Sort of ugly game. Not enough focus or intensity coming out of the gate of either half. Hill and Jackson on both ends really sparked the team in each half. Apparently Horne had a much better shooting game than I initially thought after he bricked his 1st couple of shots (that I saw). Igbanu is Igbanu. Rachal is crazy athletic. Jones has a strange potential about him. He does a lot of things pretty well but isn't necessarily great at any one of them. Korita- I don't know what to say...he regressed some.

Bad things- we gave up way too many offensive rebounds and missed way too many layups. We don't shoot well enough from outside to miss the easy chances we give ourselves.

I’m so glad baseball season is over so I don’t have to hear that stupid song again
Baby shark ain't going away. They played it at the Memphis game last weekend. Pretty sure they'll do it this Friday too. Pretty sure they'll do some stupid kid feature at basketball games too.

I think there’s lots of potential with this team. Hill will likely be our primary point by conference play. We won but I wish they hadn’t allowed that last basket or took a last second shot because the net gives you extra points if you win by 10 or more. Speaking of NET, we need to be more efficient, fewer turnovers and more rebounds, in addition to winning by at least 10 over these early weak teams. USF showed last season that you don’t need to play a bunch of top 100 teams to get a top 100 NET you just have to win and maximize their efficiency points.

I really like Hill. I really like Rachal. Early showed something in the middle of the game. I really like Jackson and I think Horne and Igbanu fight it out for top scorer. Today Horne had 22, Igbanu had 16 and Rachal was our leading rebounder with 10. Jackson had 5 steals and Hill, Horne and Jackson were top performers in the +/- stat.

I would say that 5 puts and a couple boards isn’t enough out of a guy (Jones) that are a scholarship during his RS transfer season. Need to see more from him.

Biggest head scratcher... Ugboh. He’s basically MIA

Horne shot 50% from the field with 33% from deep. He hit all 4 of his free throws, had 3 boards and 2 steals. His defense was solid but he could have rebounded better. Horne has a way of putting up solid stats but not looking flashy about it so after the game everyone is saying “he scored 22?”

another stat I like is 21 of 27 from the line for 78% as a team and three of those six misses came right near the end so at one point we were shooting 88% from the line.

Please leave Hill and Jackson in together.
Amen! the difference between Joiner and Hill at point is probably 3 light years....
Hill has the intuits of a PG, and he looked comfortable doing it....The team
efficiency with Hill at Point was night and day....He is our best freshman Pg
in forever.....Joiner passed into traffic way too much....

Jackson, and you have to feel that Rachal will be the same way, is a game
changer when he is in....They both seem to be everywhere, and are fun to
watch.....Rachal is a KJ type very quick jumper and rejumper....

I didn't see the first eight minutes or so (funeral). but I didn't see Ugboh in
the game....there was no need, given HBU had no inside game.

The game was about what I expected....Haith did hang with some odd
line-ups that weren't working, a little too long at times....

Quiet but solid games from Horne, Igbanu, and Rachal.

The team has to shoot better as they move through the season.
I agree, shooting and rebounding should be the focus of practices going forward. We did run a lot of plays to get layups though.

This isn’t about the game but rather about two old guys who have to be the most annoying TU fans ever. They sit right behind where Bruce Howard does and chant “voo doo! Brick! Voo doo at the opposing teams”, but the biggest head scratcher? This so called tu fan yells airball at tu players when they shoot one. I mean wtf? He needs to stop or gtfo

I posted about his range early when I first pulled up the stream. He bricked a couple of shots and looked really bad doing so.

The VooDoo guys normally sit in 117 in the corner section. They have for years. I'm sure they moved over to behind Bruce today as that is where season ticket holders were told to sit with all the kids around today.

I don't know about the "airball" thing. That's weird to scream it at one of your own players.

I promise, as much as I rail against Haith... it’s Not me shouting airball at our own players!

I know exactly who you are talking about, had to sit by him 2 years ago at the Lamar game.... Very annoying
