TU media release...

• Tulsa will continue American Athletic Conference play at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 when it will host Temple on Legends Day at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

• The Hurricane will welcome back former TU players as part of Legends Day. The group of legends, which includes former All-American and TU Hall of Famer Paul Pressey, will be honored at halftime of Saturday’s contest.

• Tulsa leads the all-time series against Temple, 7-2, and owns a perfect 4-0 mark against the Owls at home. Overall, the Hurricane has won three of the last four matchups.

• DaQuan Jeffries leads the team in scoring at 13.9 ppg and rebounding at 5.7 rpg. Jeffries has led the team in scoring 11 times, including a career-high 25 points in a win over Memphis (Jan. 30). The Edmond native also averages a team-leading 14.3 ppg during conference play.

• Jeriah Horne is averaging 9.4 ppg, which is tops in the conference among players who have come off the bench in every game this season. He is averaging 11.4 ppg during conference play and 14.7 ppg in his last three games.

• With 100 assists this season, Sterling Taplin has moved to sixth place on the program’s all-time charts with 375. Taplin needs 14 assists to pass current TU assistant coach Shea Seals (1993-1997) and move into the top five.

• TU has notched 49 league wins since joining The American, which is tied with Temple for the fourth-most in the circuit behind only Cincinnati (64), SMU (55) and Houston (50) during that span (2014-present).

• Tulsa was picked to finish ninth in The American Preseason Poll. TU has finished better than its preseason prediction in all four seasons under head coach Frank Haith.

• With a 10-3 non-conference record, Tulsa had its best start under head coach Frank Haith. The Hurricane registered 10 wins before the start of league play for the first time since 2009-10.

The Game

• Tulsa will continue American Athletic Conference play at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 when it will host Temple on Legends Day at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

• The game can be seen on ESPNU, while fans in the Tulsa area can tune to Big Country 99.5 FM with Bruce Howard and former Hurricane player J.R. Rollo on the call. Live audio from the game also can be found by using the TuneIn app.

Scouting the Owls

• Temple was picked to finish sixth in The American as the team returned three starters and nine lettermen from last year’s squad, which went 17-16 and played in the NIT after an 8-10 league mark to finish seventh.

• The Owls have won their last two games after dropping three of their previous four contests. Temple defeated UConn on Wednesday night, 81-63, behind 18 points from Shizz Alston Jr.

• Temple is led by Shizz Alston Jr. (18.3 ppg), Quinton Rose (16.9 ppg) and Nate Pierre-Louis (13.9 ppg). The trio accounts for 65-percent of the Owls’ scoring. Pierre-Louis has been even better in conference play at 16.4 ppg.

• The Owls are averaging 77.3 ppg during league action, a mark that ranks second in the circuit.

The Series

• Saturday’s matchup marks just the 10th meeting between Tulsa and Temple with the Golden Hurricane leading the series, 7-2. Last season, the teams split a pair of games with each winning on its home floor.

• The Hurricane has won all four previous meetings in Tulsa, including a 76-58 win over the Owls on March 4, 2018.

Last Meeting

• Corey Henderson Jr. scored a game-high 21 points and Tulsa opened the game on a 24-0 run to race past Temple, 76-58, on Senior Day, March 4, 2018, at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

• Henderson Jr. hit five 3-pointers en route to his game-high total, while Martins Igbanu had 16 points and Curran Scott added 14 points and seven rebounds. TU scored 19 points off 13 Owls turnovers.

• The Hurricane hit eight of its first 10 shots to race out to a 24-0 lead over the game’s first 10 minutes. Temple did not get on the board until a Quinton Rose jumper at the 9:56 mark of the first half.

• The Owls started the game 0-of-12 from the floor and turned it over five times.

• Temple would get as close as 51-44 with 8:04 left in the game, but Tulsa outscored the Owls 21-9 over the next five minutes to put the game away.

A Tulsa Win Would ...

• Improve Tulsa’s record to 14-10 on the season and improve its conference record to 4-7.

• Improve Tulsa’s all-time record against Temple to 8-2 overall and 5-0 at home.

• Give Tulsa its fourth win over the Owls in its last five games.

• Improve Tulsa’s home record to 12-2 this season.
