Sports Chat Place is in early on this one... @Gold*'s buddy Randy made the pick this week...
The New Mexico Lobos and Tulsa Golden Hurricane meet Saturday in college football action at Chapman Stadium.
The New Mexico Lobos could use a nice road victory here to get back to a .500 record. The New Mexico Lobos have lost six of their last nine road games. Lamar Jordan is completing 57.9 percent of his passes for 328 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Jordan and Tevaka Tuioti have combined for three touchdown passes this season. Chris Davis, Jr. and Delane Hart-Johnson have combined for 301 receiving yards and one touchdown while Jay Griffin IV has seven receptions. The New Mexico Lobos ground game is averaging 211 yards per contest, and Daryl Chestnut leads the way with 136 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, New Mexico is allowing 24 points and 348.7 yards per game. Jacob Girgle leads the New Mexico Lobos with 17 tackles, Jake Rothschiller has one sack and Jalin Burrell has four pass deflections.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane also need a victory here in order to get back to a .500 record. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane have won seven straight home games. Chad President is completing 58.7 percent of his passes for 546 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions. President now has one touchdown pass on 80 career pass attempts. Justin Hobbs and Keenen Johnson have combined for 418 receiving yards and one touchdown while Josh Stewart has six receptions. The Tulsa Golden Hurricane ground game is averaging 363.6 yards per contest, and D'Angelo Brewer leads the way with 447 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Tulsa is allowing 51.7 points and 638.3 yards per game. Manny Bunch leads the Tulsa Golden Hurricane with 25 tackles, Jeremy Smith has two sacks and Craig Suits has one interception.
The Lobos are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in September and 2-8 ATS vs. a team with a losing record. The Golden Hurricane are 3-8-1 ATS vs. a team with a losing record, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in September and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The over is 36-16 in Golden Hurricane last 52 games overall and the under is 4-0 in Lobos last 4 games overall.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane didn't need long to find their groove offensively despite so many new faces, as this team has produced a combined 117 points in their last two games. The problem I have is that Tulsa is dead last in the country in total yards allowed per game and has given up 50-plus points in all three games. I have a hard time laying double-digit points with a team that can't get off the field defensively. New Mexico isn't some powerhouse, but the Lobos run the ball well, eat clock and did just hang around with Boise State last week on the road, a game in which they allowed just 12 first downs. There's better games out there to bet, but if I must make a pick here, I'd take my points as more of a fade from the worst defensive team in the land.
