Game thoughts Wichita State

On a positive note, it was very encouraging to see BB Knight hit some shots and have his first dunk yesterday. He certainly has played like a freshman in many games this year, but he was hitting on all cylinders yesterday. This will be tremendous for his confidence and will surely keep him in a Tulsa jersey next year.

Also, it appears that Dalger's shooting has improved. I didn't realize this stat until today. Last season, he made a total of 5 three-pointers. Yesterday, he was 5 for 7 from the three-point arch. Obviously, he needs to be much more consistent from game to game, but it was great to see him shoot the rock so well. His improvement somewhat reminds me of when Darien Jackson found his shooting stroke.

Great comments. Dellagar analogy to Jackson is quite fitting. They both had nice range. Good shots, but awkward rotation on their shots which makes consistency a problem.

Still our worst season since the 1970s.
This is the worst season since Tulsa went 6-21 in 1977. That was Jim King's second year. I think TU will win 2 more games this season. And I'm not down on Konkol at all. Just very little left when Konkol took over, although Konkol may not have realized how bad it was when he took over. If there isn't marked improvement next year, I will be worried. The Jim King era of the late 70's was depressing. Mostly bad basketball. It followed a really good era under Ken Hayes, who ridiculously got fired.

I actually met one of the assistants a few weeks ago, and he alluded that the talent level was even lower than the staff realized coming in. I expect BIG improvement next season, due to upgraded talent across the board.

The Jim King era was a result of a legendary alum having too much influence. Jim King is a really decent person but he had no head coaching experience. Ten years as an NBA player couldn't prepare him for college coaching.

I doubt he understood the “mechanisms “ of recruiting back then like the good old boys who had coached a long time.

I'm glad that our current staff recognizes the obvious problems, unlike previous coaching regimes. It's refreshing in many ways.
