I debated whether to post in an existing or new thread but since the topic was in multiple threads new it is.
Huffy has shared a great deal of information about the internal debate on the ongoing viability of TU Football and his information is accurate and timely. To build on that foundation I recently spoke with TU official and brought up the topic. The response was yes it was debated but ended fairly quickly when they realized the cost up front to drop football was $25-$35M.. Those are the cost of breaking TV, Adidas, Learfield and other contracts predicated on TU playing FBS football. Additionally when word got out influential donors would drop support of other aspects of the University without football the debate ended.
I don’t doubt it will come up again but thankfully getting into the AAC probably saved football. We need to continue to have good TV ratings, improve attendance (in 2021), and thank the big money donors (even GK for the OSU series) that continue to invest in TU football.
