It's about time we fire this... oh... wait... damnit

You don't think about firing a coach after years 1-3. Year 2 has just started and people on the board want him canned. That's silly. A university that fired several coaches after 2 or 3 years with the University would not be respected, and have no good candidates for their coaching searches.

On the other hand their is our practice as of late, in keeping coaches too long. We seem to be on the year 8 or 9 year firing mode, with little performance to motivate extensions. You need to give a coach 4-7 years to be respected by the coaching fraternity, in order to get a good selection list for the next coach. The sweet spot is after 5 years and no real performance markers for keeping them. 6 is not a bad number either. He has to be doing really bad after 4 years to even consider it.

All the moaners on this board would have had 3 coaches ea in place of Monty, and Haith. We would not be getting the proper candidates in out searches if we did this. Also , you can throw some pretty decent coaches under the bus if you have no more than two or three years to evaluate them.

Ya you definitely have to give him at least 3 , this is his first year with his players , and a lot of them are freshmen

Looking across the landscape of college football yesterday. There's a lot more programs dealing with lower than expected performances. We just unfortunately fit in that group this week. Crazy scores all over America.

As much as I hate losing, Wilson is not Monty 2.0. During his brief YouTube (where I saw it) post game chat with Rick Couri he recognized the issue and accepted fault. Something Monty never did.... Kids are going to class; didn't happen with Monty. Kids are passing their classes and showing academic progress; wasn't happening with Monty. Wilson doesn't have any false sense of loyalty that allows lesser talented upperclassmen to play ahead of more talented newcomers; lord knows Monty did. There's more, but for now...

In the end he's going to need to win games, and it needs to be sooner rather than later.

Honest question. How do you know this about the players and GPA etc?

It’s available on the ncaa site. The important thing is to not be fooled by the historical average and load the more detailed yearly data. That’s where the story is told.

Latest two semesters, our average football team GPA is 3. plus, as opposed to bottom 10 average GPA in all 120 schools or so in Monty's last 3 out of 4 semesters. For this alone, KDub needs to be retained, regardless of football record last year. For those interested in w's or l's only and could care less whether our players graduate or not, find another team. The word "student" in the term "student athletes" means something very important in their future success in life.

I keep saying this, but next year KDub's team, with 27 true freshmen- all 3-star guys- now getting invaluable experience, will compete for a conference championship

100% Agree. Did the loss suck this past weekend? BIG time, but he owns his mistakes and I think we will play much better going forward. The people on here melting and being dumb need to cut it out. We are YOUNG and that's how teams at Tulsa have to be built; we can't just continually get studs from the transfer portal. Hell, I still think we will win alot of conference games this season.

The moment we started paying players, the word student moved behind the word athlete.

They are now athletes who also take classes, not students who happen to play football.

The University has issued several press releases related to academic progress by the football team over the last two years.

The football team posted the best academic performance for a single semester in school history last spring.

The cumulative grade point average of the team is nearing record levels.

This incoming freshman class had numerous players with Ivy League offers.

By contrast, 3 years ago Tulsa was perilously close to being penalized for lack of academic progress, in part due to academic performance issues under Montgomery.

In two more years, I will be willing to bet the student body at large will be dragging down the academic ranking of the football team. Wilson was a math major at UNC. He gets it.

That said, our DC needs to hit his books. We’ve got freshman out there and guys learning on the job. Playing man/free to go plus one in the box and stop the run ain’t the answer on every play. All that late underneath passing, especially on third and less than 5 is him giving the medium pass to stop the run and the home run.

Wilson ain’t the source of the problem. Total scoring defense and offensive turnovers are the problem. At worst Wilson is to blame for either coaching that or letting it happen.

He’s a good fit when he coaches within himself. Give him a chance. He can win 8 games this year if some players focus, others progress rapidly, and we stop letting defenses scheme us into throwing to Pressley on third down.

Just a few years ago, there were some bowl bids extended to 5 win teams as there weren't enough bowl eligible teams to fill all available slots. The criteria for this is the Academic Progress Rate, and I was shocked and embarrassed at how poor our APR was compared to several other schools.

We were in the bottom ten schools, with regard to APR, at the time. You are correct, we wouldn't have been able to receive the bowl bid, as a sub .500 team, if we won the final game that season due to the abysmal APR at the time. It was a non-issue in the end because Monty did Monty and we dropped the final game, and he avoided the outrage of being denied due to academic as well as simply completing another final season of Monty ball. He may have planned it that way. We were in the bottom ten schools, with regard to APR, at the time.

Did you watch the end of the game where we mishandled timeouts, or where on multiple 3rd and shorts we threw 30+ yard bombs instead of trying a high percentage play to move the chains?

It’s not all on the defense.

Yea I think he owned those overthinking play calls and we probably won’t do crap like that again. No disagreement on those there
