posted on ESPN and picked up by Tulsa World. Chicken or Egg - did this happen in response to Underwood or did he know about it when he decided to go to Illinois.

A big hit for State.

I think Evans stays if Underwood would have stayed. Would have depended on his draft grade.

Only one man can save OSU basketball now

John Phillips had more experience and he promised to be loyal too. Talk show hosts should be at the top of everybody's list.................. JV Haney has at least coached and is available.

Now that guy could really shoot.
Only person I've ever seen who you never wanted to see the ball in his hands outside the 3 pt arc so you'd foul him and let him have the 3 FT attempts. Dead serious, if you're that bad at FTs, shoot the damn things underhand and aim for the square in the backboard.

Everyone is trying to compare Gottlieb to guys who got jobs without having coaching experience...Hoiberg, Steve Kerr, Chris Mullin, and Tyronn Lue. Those 4 guys all have something Gottlieb didn't...multiple years playing in the NBA. I want to see Gottlieb walk into a recruits house and say "I hosted a national sports talk radio show for ten years" and see if that wins a kid over. I have no doubt he knows the game but right now he has ZERO credibility as a coach.

I'm too lazy to look it up but I'm confident, as you also know, they're definitely the exception not the rule.

If OSU actually hires him, no chance IMO, I wish him well. And I hope he surprises me but I expect it to go about as well as Orlando Antigua at USF (he even had asst experience too!)

Yes. A bunch of schools have picked Pros without coaching experience. I remember Houston did recently and after a while he said "I have to recruit ?" and left shortly thereafter. Someone will give us a list. Paul Pressey keeps being listed for TU every time we have an opening..........

I believe Pressey has some NBA assistant experience and he may even have some NBA front office experience. I don't think the end all be all is experience coaching at some level...but you have to have more than 10 years CBS Sports Mic Jockey on your professional resume. The issue with Gottlieb is he has a number of different "cons" that would make me question if he was ready for the job. Does he know the game...sure. I'll even give him that he probably can coach the x's and o's part. On those 2 points he is barely qualified to coach an AAU or high school team. Can he manage a program? No evidence that he can because he hasn't done it yet. Can he recruit? No evidence he can. Can he handle the day to day grind of a D1 head coach and all that entails? No evidence he can do that either.
