This just sounds like a bunch of bluster. The EDF will step outside the limitations of NATO. But NATO limitations are not what is stopping them from helping Ukraine. WWIII, nuclear weapons, energy interests, and Putin being crazy are what is stopping them from helping Ukraine.

If it goes further, and Poland were attacked…

Lets pretend Poland wasn't a member of NATO. I don't think NATO limitations would keep NATO from acting. The members would band together and quickly rewrite the agreement, let it pass with a super majority, and sign the new agreement. Then they would act.

Those same things would stop the European Defense Force. Unless they decide it has gone too far, with another country being attacked, they will be in the same predicament. They would have to pass that Rubicon.
