Wouldn’t surprise me if it isn’t in the works, as much as I hate playing FCS schools. We can always offer them a game here in 2028 and give them a nice little payout for their trouble.
They tried to eliminate a portal window to no avail.I don’t blame the ETSU AD. They signed him to an extension after one year (with a 500K buyout) because other FBS schools were already looking at him. Instead, he leaves just as the portal opens.
IMO, they really need to consider moving back both the early signing date for football and the opening day of the portal. I believe these dates are both too close to the end of the regular season and are causing more coaches to be fired during the season.

There is no way that he doesn't have a basic idea of Texas. Too many recruits there for a coach that spent much of his time in Tennessee, and comes from Georgia, to not know. It's not like his area is Pennsylvania. And from what I have heard about his network of contacts, he will have at least 1 or 2 coaches hired that will be extremely familiar with Texas, and at least moderately familiar with Oklahoma. I imagine he's a quick study as well. I don't think he will have a staff that can't function in the Texas and Oklahoma recruiting environment.Native Tulsan. I started going to TU football and basketball games in the early 60’s.
I’ve been watching TU since Glenn Dobbs. This hire reminds me of Vince Carilot and George Henshaw.
Both of these coaches left Tulsa under different circumstances soon after they arrived.
Gardner Webb is just west of Charlotte, a private school, and ETSU is located in the Kingsport/Bristol/Johnson City area of East Tennessee.
These places are way far away from Texas and Oklahoma. You do not just wake up and start scooping up players from Texas and Oklahoma. The guy has no clue where Tyler and Bixby are, and someone will be coming in before or after with a bigger check.
John Cooper came from Kentucky and turned out to be one hell of a football coach and had success. He came in his first season in the face of black football players threatening to boycott the team. This coach is facing some serious headwinds also. Each situation is unique. Of the thirty or so players in the portal at TU? Let every last one of them go. Good riddance. They are quitters. Move on. Don’t let the door hit in you in the ass.
A new dawn has arrived.
I don't think we'll be playing ETSU anytime soon for them to roll out their BURN show.It sucks. It's part of the business but it's always a tough pill. Kinda a familiar spot for us also.
Hopefully they can move forward quickly and thier band isnt composing a halftime show about Lamb's Inferno.
And I am OK with that as long as the formula for finding his replacement follows this one. Young, hungry coach with some wrinkles in how he likes to do things. I am on the fence still. I felt like we needed a splash hire. My initial reaction was Lamb wasn't a splash. I am hoping he proves me wrong and that he was the right guy whether he was on the initial contact list or he sort of fell in our laps late after some other offers fell through. I am encouraged by what some pretty reputable coaches are saying about him and also that guys he has hired to be assistants have been snatched up by FBS and P4 programs relatively quickly. He seemingly has an eye for talent, both players and coaches, from just reading that info and he also seems to know what a program needs to get it turned around right away. He's in the big leagues now so we'll see if his formula carries over.it is the coaching business. if he is successful, he will leave us in 3 years.
And let's hope he can use some of those Florida and Georgia connections to get some players here. Georgia has a lot of good football players that get overlooked because it's not Florida or Texas. And maybe Kirby Smart and Napier will refer some of their portal players this way. There is no way that he doesn't have a basic idea of Texas. Listed capacity is 7,694, there's a few/probably several in the Tulsa area alone that are bigger than thatI'm not the only one that noticed that there are likely several HS in Oklahoma that play in bigger stadiums than ETSU seemed to have, right?
Union for sure (11k), BA is probably close if not bigger. I think SE Williams (BTW) can probably hold a crap ton of people. That home side is huge. I think Bixby's plan is to have 8-9k for their new stadium. Remarkably, Jenks is tiny and Hunter Dwelley probably needs to be replaced soon. It's actually a pretty awful place to watch a game. I know Edmond Memorial seats close to 9k as well (Home side is the same as Union, but the away side is a lot smaller). Edmond North maybe. And Taft (OKC PS) can seat a decent amount.Listed capacity is 7,694, there's a few/probably several in the Tulsa area alone that are bigger than that
Wouldn't that be something?I don't think we'll be playing ETSU anytime soon for them to roll out their BURN show.
Home Runs don't always win, some times it's a series of singles. And I am OK with that as long as the formula for finding his replacement follows this one. I agree to an extent. I felt a HR was needed at this particular moment to excite donors and the fan base a little bit after the last 4 years being pretty awful. And in this new era of NIL and portal/free agency, sometimes that HR is needed to be able to engage and convince players to stay or come here. Not knowing the 1st thing about this guy other than I had never heard of him, I felt we missed. Now, when you start hearing about his coaching staff and who he has attracted and how they've developed under his leadership and you start hearing from some high level coaches about how good this guy is going to be, you start to warm a little. Still need to see results.Home Runs don't always win, some times it's a series of singles.
His standard for next season is my standard - a bowl game. That's a start.I agree to an extent. Personable but also looks like he is itching to knock down a brick wall. Kind of edgy that way.His press conference was a home run that's for sure. Straight forward, energetic, all the things you wanna see. I like the plan for his staff also...and he will be given all the resources to succeed it sounds like.
Jenks is actually listed at 7690 so it’s essentially the exact same size as theirs 😆Union for sure (11k), BA is probably close if not bigger. I wonder if ETSU's capacity also takes into account the hill on one end as it appeared in some of the clips that a good number of people sat in that area.
Hunter Dwelley is a great place to watch a game, especially if you're on the visitor's side and are giving the home team the business. You left Owasso Stadium off your list but they claim a capacity of 10,280.Union for sure (11k), BA is probably close if not bigger. I think SE Williams (BTW) can probably hold a crap ton of people.
