@CaneVideo apparently forgot we have a soccer board.

Here’s the post season wrap up from both coaches.

We have work to do and I’m sure they are ready to get started.

I have more confidence in Tom to get it done than I do in Jim. I don't think Tom shies away from tough recruiting and he occasionally wins some top battles for kids. That said, the current atmosphere of NIL and transfer to a new school every year probably doesn't work in our favor too much.

Huffy, do you know what TU is going to do about the scholarships for soccer? I know there are no more partial scholarships and dividing them out but now the NCAA is imposing a roster limit and every person on the roster is a scholarship player moving forward. But schools can certainly impose their own internal limits, right? Will be interesting to see how TU handles formerly non-equivalency sports and how much $ they allocate to them for scholarships.

I think we have more to worry about from NIL and the pro development programs depleting the roster than the whys and how of filling out the rosters. There will always be kids who will pay to play. We just have to find the right twenty to play Mac’s system that can remain competitive.

I thought that scholarship Trust was supposed to bring our players up to nearly full scholarships almost across the board, for at least the starters/first string players.

Those that can pay should pay a little for those who can’t.
Yes. Basically an Ivy League approach. Money based on ability to pay instead of ability to play. If that is indeed our approach going forward then I question our ability to compete in the Olympic sports.

It will be a hybrid I imagine. We will have a ringer or two I’m guessing. And plenty of foreign players. But as he so clearly communicates on the podcast, if you have the ability of Meinhard, we don’t have the ability to keep you.

College athletes in those sports where roster limits are being imposed are now being told there will be roster cuts going into next year. I’ve been told most colleges are going to fulfill their money commitment to the kids but not guarantee a roster spot

But as I understand with those roster limits, every player left on the roster is a full scholarship in the eyes of the NCAA. If a school doesn't offer the full amount that's on the school but the NCAA cannot limit the number of scholarships in any given sport any longer.

I believe that’s correct. However the number of ships is limited to roster spots so girls soccer has a maximum of 24 ships a school can give out. The problem for next year is schools have already signed their classes. So if they currently have a 30 player roster depending on how many graduating seniors there are those schools are going to have to move some girls off the rosters. I believe most will do the right thing and honor the money commitment. I’m not sure how many schools will give out 24 fill rides for soccer. My guess is most will not. We should know soon enough. There were a number of committed players this year who got caught up in the new numbers game and had to look elsewhere. Not a great deal.

This is correct.

Yeah, the days of TU having 36 players on the roster are done when most of those kids were given a spot on the roster to get them to TU because it helped enrollment numbers and also with some cash flow. The Olympics have been doing that for years, rowing being one of those sports that brought in huge numbers. Reality is a lot of those players beyond spot 24 were never going to see the field in a game, even in the preseason. Yes, it sucks for a few of them this year as coaches work through this transition.

Rowing had money to burn. My girlfriend in college did not come to TU to row but some of her friends convinced her to go give it a shot and she got half tuition as a result.
