I'm sympathetic because it likely reflects on Rader's living in a outdated bubble largely isolated from dealing with other races, particularly Asian Americans. One of the non-profit boards I was on required racial sensitivity training, and I was surprised by the experience and the sensitivities it exposed. My wife was once corrected (nicely) for referring to someone as 'Chinese' by someone who thought she was using it generically--much like Rader's use of the word 'yellow'. In fact, my wife used the word Chinese because the people were Chinese and were speaking in Mandarin with each other. We've lived in Asia and one of my offspring speaks fluent Mandarin; she was just being accurate.
