Had great footwork today. Scrambled for positive yardage, opened up receivers for first downs at least 2 or 3 times that I remember, had great game management today (zero interceptions). Transparency demands that we applaud him when he does well and wins us a game in addition those lamentable instances where he has cost us such opportunities.

Dane is not our biggest issue by a long shot. It's our defense and Oline that are very suspect. Dane is not a world beater but he is not our biggest issue either.

Dane is doing a good job. Oline has issues but generally gets the job done. Our main issue is our Secondary. We blow to many coverage's and fail to make any attempts to play the ball. We missed so many chances to just knock the ball down. On the long passes I would rather they would take the 15 yards instead of just giving up the big play. They are young and will improve I'm sure but it's painful to watch now. Great win though.

Dane did a much better job but there are times when I don't understand what he is thinking. At one point tonight Atkinson was wide open down the left side and Dane looked right at him before pulling the ball down and taking the sack. Not sure why he didn't throw it.

bravo Dane. Without his clutch play, including that amazing touch pass, TU would have lost in Dallas again

One more comment to place yourself in the annals of negative commenters who don't have a clue. Hobbs looked good today, why don't u go ahead and give him a backhanded compliment.

My "quarterback controversy" comment would be about President not Dane. Twice Dane drives us into the red zone and we yank him for President who promptly loses yards. What's our strategy for President? Why put him in for the most pressure situation with the least room to operate rather than working him in? Didn't make much sense to me.

I hope Monty gets a clue and allows him to pass or just leaves him out. There's no point in putting Chad in if the defense can just put all 11 in the box without even having to worry about WRs.

As long as we win the game, I am fine with Chad only running the ball. Save the passing package for when we'll need it against Cincinnati.

Dane played good football. He got rid of the ball on time. He didn't panic. He secured the ball that's all he need to do is not commit turnover either passing or running.

Dane is doing everything better this year than he did last year when everyone complained. All anyone wanted last year was 60-63% completion percentage. He's at 61% with a 3-1 TD to INT ratio. What else do you want from the kid? We're averaging 35 PPG. Do you want him to play DB too and keep the other team from scoring?

Thank you!!! Dane is NOT our major problem. He is not perfect. He is not a good runner. He occasionally makes some bone-head decisions. But he is certainly an above-average passer. In fact, his stats have him as one of the best passers in the entire Country!!! All this being done behind a very porous Oline. The idiots on here that are critical of Dane are just that ... idiots. The focus should be on getting better athletes on defense. THAT is our biggest problem by far. We are ranked 122 out of 128 D1 teams in total defense.

The stats don't lie ... they prove Dane is an above-average passer and that our defense sucks.

Chad running the ball is a wasted down unless they let him audible to a pass play. Then the defense cannot stack the line or at least him him the jumbo package to run behind.

One thing that continues to get under my skin is the number of sacks. He usually has a hard time getting out of the pocket so he can just throw it away, but man the sacks in the pocket are drive killers. I haven't noticed but are our receivers that well covered by SMU or was it that Dane just still can't get through the progressions quick enough?

BTW, I agree he played pretty soundly.

I don't think it has much to do with Dane actually. When he gets sacked he usually has 1-2 seconds which is not much time to do anything. Our RBs have not been very good at picking up the extra pass rushers, and we don't have many screen passes in the playbook or they seem to be forgotten. He doesn't get a chance to step up in the pocket because Uhles is usually in his lap and the blind side DE (from the QB's perspective) is having a field day against the T on that side (is that where Wright is filling in?) The bigger drive killers are when we get into a flow and the C fakes the snap and gets called for a false start on 1st down. The key to our offense is being able to pick up 4-5 on 1st down and then the playbook opens up. Throw in a well-timed screen to keep the D off balance. 3rd and 7 or 8 is the perfect time to run that when they show blitz. Heck, line Wilson and Dixon up as TEs tight to the line, fake the hand off and run Wilson up the seam and Dixon into the flat. We show run and pass...keeps the defense having to think and respect that we might throw from a run look. Better yet, line President up in that package and let him have the option of handing it off , keep it and run, or throw. Wanna see a confused defense?

Uhhhh ... sacks are usually considered part of poor Oline play.

Are they?
I watched our O-Line actually standing straight up turning their heads while watching Dane getting clobbered by the D-Linemen they are supposedly blocking. If they are leaking that bad with line protection then throw in a delayed middle screen if the linebackers have cleared out.

Really like all those ideas in terms of X's and O's. Too bad we'll never see it from Monty. Throw deep or run up the middle. Take your pick.

Dane is playing better. He has turnover issues. He has throw one or two interceptions at critical times. He has fumbled the ball when no one was around him. Dane have his own issues.

The Offensive line is starting two freshman and a Redshirt Freshman. This line is young and athletic but they getting the experience they need for the future. The coaches should give Brewer and Warren most of the carries with Langer come in to bang heads and be physical. I don't think that will happen with these guys being bang up after physical games.

I like the 3 3 5 defense TU ran against SMU. I hope that will be one of its base defense against spread offense. I like to see the LB get more involved in pressuring the QB.

Always easy to point fingers at the oline for lack of pass protection. Backs blocking, QB decision making and route running also play a huge part. Am I saying they are blameless? No I'm not but blanket statements with nothing to back them up are just that nothing.

Nothing to back them up! Video don't lie. Turnovers don't lie. A freshman burned a Redshirt to spark a down TU offense against ECU when Dane was down on himself. Watch the Video.

I want Dane to make good decision with the ball. Stop making mistake during critical times. Yes, he has a strong arm but he cant throw through a defender. He has good touch to get the ball over some of the defenders. Brewer and Warren continue to make plays in the running game hopefully, that will open up the passing game more.

Agreed but all I'm saying is it's a group effort. Way to many factors involved in pass protection.

And I also agree with you agreeing with me. But seriously, we need to get better on the Oline. I think we have some good young hawgs recruited, but they are a year or two away from playing. You certainly know more about Oline play than I will never will. And, I do agree that there more factors than just the Oline itself which causes/contributes to sacks. But when your QB is only getting a second or two to get the ball off, then it certainly could mean the Oline is getting beat.

I'm leaving the route running out. Most of these aren't coverage sacks. Dane is under siege within 1-2 seconds of the snap. The RBs do need to get better at pass protection and I think part of that is not understanding what the O-line is doing when the D shows blitz. QB needs to help him and let him know who he's blocking. Right now I think the C is just getting over whelmed and manhandled and if you have a T who is just learning to play the position at this speed you are going to have issues if your QB is not Jonny Manziel. As for INTs...all QBs throw them (except Tom Brady this year, and yes he has 1 INT but that was a dropped ball by Edelman...QBs shouldn't be saddled with INTs if its a ball the WR should catch). Has he thrown a couple at the most inopportune time? Yes...a pick 6 after you open the game with a great drive and are going in to score...that's a deflater. And all players have bone-head plays (hello, Mark Sanchez-BUTT FUMBLE). Dane's fumble against Memphis was him trying to do the right thing and switch the ball to his outside hand to avoid it getting stripped or hit.

Paul Smith's SR yr at TU (2007) 5,065 yds, 60.1% completions, 47 TDs, 19 INTs (4-5 of which went for pick 6's). Many of you would be surprised to know that the season Dane is having this year compares favorably to Smith's SR yr. This year's schedule is probably a little tougher as well. Dane is doing what is asked of him within his abilities and is managing it pretty well.

He was carrying it like a loaf of bread though...he didn't tuck it like a normal ball carrier.

He was. It happened right in front of me. He was still looking to pass and when he decided to run and get to the sideline he went to move the ball from a passing grip in his right hand to a running hold in his left and he caught his thigh with it. It was unfortunate but you could tell he was trying to do the right thing and put the ball away.
