NIT has new selection criteria. They have now what is called the KNIT. This is a rating that comes up with an average of the BPI, KPI, NET, KenPom, SOR, Torvik and WAB rankings. If you are a Regular Season Conference Champion and you finish the regular season with a KNIT of 125 or better then you automatically qualify for the NIT if you are not selected on Selection Sunday by the NCAA tournament.

Those that have qualified for the NIT already are

Lipscomb
High Point
Chattanooga

Schedules will be posted the night before and the NET will reflect the day before and not the day of.

I didn’t post todays games as I was too late. The only tournament going was the A Sun Quarter Finals. The semis will be on March 6th.

North Alabama over Austin Peay
Queens over FGCU
Jacksonville over Eastern Kentucky
Lipscomb over Central Arkansas

Day 3 Begins the Sun Belt Conference whose tournament mimicks the WCC. Kinda dumb. This tournament is held in Pensacola. The Horizon League begins at Campus sites with the Semis and Finals in Indianapolis.

Whenever I see FGCU I think of “dunk city”, that was one of the most entertaining teams to watch in recent years, although I guess it’s not all that recent anymore. Getting older sure does mess with your sense of time.

2012 - 2013 is when they made that run. That was 12 years ago and I was in Afghanistan. 5 years after that UMBC knocked of Virginia. It wasn’t too long ago but long enough.

I can still feel the rush of both of those games. FGCU taking down #2 Georgetown and UMBC taking down Virginia.

Seeing UBMC take down UVa is the most satisfying non-TU game in basketball that i have watched. Nothing against UVa, I liked Bennett as a coach, but seeing the little guy have a chance and then finally winning was very exciting. That is what the people outside of the the losing school want to see but unfortunately that is what the big conferences don’t want to see and are trying to structure things to keep it from occurring.

They are stupid. That is half the joy of the tourney, seeing Cinderella's upset the big boys. If they take that away then people like me and a lot of others won't watch it as much.
