I t was reported on the sports animal this morning that coach Monty has allowed Jabe Burgess back on the team and he will compete for the QB job in the spring.
Different regimes shon. Lil' D probably would have been reinstated under this one, hell he might have only been suspended a game under this one.Originally posted by shon46:
He is one lucky kid. Johnson, a proven commodity got the boot for taking clothes but Burgess breaks into someone's apt and trashed it and gets reinstated. Wow.....just wow......moving on.......President was a project anyway so really it a two QB race in terms of actual playing experience. Heftley is the real wild card in terms of his ability to process and adapt once he' gets on campus but if I were Monty, I would play the odds and assume Heftley and President wIll redshirt and therefore leave us with only two real viable options thus us reinstating Burgess. Let's hope he can get his life together and be a positive contributor!
Exactly, but the other kid, a CB, did not return. I remember that one well. Don't use the CC and the police don't get involved at all.Originally posted by Fmr'Cane16:
DJ was also charged with a felony not a misdemeanor, which automatically triggers administration involvement.
The univ responded similarly back when I was playing and Kedrick was charged with felony burglary and suspended indef. Had the opportunity to return a year later and took advantage of it.
IMO - I think PM will be looking for someone as close as possible to the ability of GJ Kinne - a QB who runs and throws equally well. That may keep someone with Rubleys speed in the mix. Someone who can keep the play alive with his feet. That would be ideal, but he may or may not have that guy as a total package. Rubley and President probably fit that running threat better than the others as far as I can tell. IMO PM does NOT want a timid QB who "just throws"..Originally posted by tuhurricane20:
About some of our other QBs playing other positions I think Rubley could be a WR with his speed, And the president was a ranked WR but from what I saw of Burgess last spring he has all the tools. Evans showed a lot of improvement last year.Should be a fun spring. I want to see the best player start. I believe coach Monty will play the best players who ever they are.

Jesse, I know for a fact that a former player drove drunk, totaled another students car after he drove up an embankment into one of the apt lots (pre- iron gate fencing) and destroyed some landscaping and this car. My wife witnessed it (she wasn't my wife yet) as did several other apt. residents. Burns convinced Campo not to call police and they would handle it internally. Well, that step allowed the player's parents to not have it go against their insurance and they refused to pay for the damages. Luckily the player signed a FA contract with the Eagles and then played well enough that his extension was big time. Student sued him and finally got paid for her damages about 3 years later. Burns covered up a lot of crap. I know this for a fact.

Trying not to use names but I put a big enough clue in there that anyone with enough knowledge of the TU program from 1997-present would be able to take an educated guess.Originally posted by TUMU:

I don't think that is the point and I don't think anyone at TU is ignoring it. I think Burgess was given some conditions he had to meet from a university discipline standpoint and pay the restitution in order to be reinstated. He is probably on some form of university probation as well that goes through the end of the academic year (or if they felt it was a serious enough issue then possibly through Dec. 2015; I have never heard of TU putting a student on housing probation or discplinary probation for more than an academic year). He's not getting a free pass and I would dare say that he is probably being treated like other students who have done similarly stupid things. My point is, and it's really hard to put Monty in the same category just yet, is that TU coaches (and TU) typically don't give free passes. We will never really hear what action TU took with Burgess because they don't divulge that info due to FERPA laws so we rely on the Oklahoma Court info from the web.Originally posted by TUMe:
I guess I am missing the point. Is it that things have been ignored before so why not do it again ?
You can be assured Coach Monty knows everything about Jabe's situation. I would venture to say Dr. Gragg ultimately made the decision or gave Coach Monty the okay.Originally posted by TU_BLA:
Shon, unless you're in on some info the rest of us or the public are not privy to, we only know what the paper reported. I don't think Monty knows enough of what happened and the kid probably did what was asked of him and thus reinstated. I'm sure Dr. Gragg had a say as did student affairs. Damaris was suspended for the season and could have come back and played his final season but chose to enter the draft. The difference is the timing, 4 days before the season opener versus after the season had concluded.

Warning is right. Having been an administrator in college for many years now, FR come in and do some extremely stupid things (trust me I have seen almost everything). You hope they are mistakes that afford a teachable moment and an opportunity for the individual to atone for their behavior as well as correct that behavior or pattern to a more positive one. Administrators can help guide that and most universities discipline processes and sanctions are designed to do exactly that. There are occasionally those issues that do not allow for that course because they are of an extremely egregious nature and the impact the continued presence of the individual could have on the campus community is deemed negative and persistent. On the surface, this did not seem to be that type of event. Now you can disagree with the course of action or sanction of the university took, but honestly the only ones that know what those are Burgess, Coach Monty, and other university offices directly involved in the university process (possibly housing, Campo).Originally posted by TU Hurricane Warning:
After reading this entire thread I have to say some of you all sound like a bunch of old ladies sitting at the table talking over a game of bridge! Seriously, the kid must have taken this situation to heart and is working it out. Enough said...
