From Fox23...

TULSA, Okla. — Former TU and Union head football coach Bill Blankenship will join the University of Memphis staff as an offensive analyst this season. Blankenship told FOX23 the news Friday.

Memphis head coach Justin Fuente played quarterback for Blankenship at Union in the 1990s.

Blankenship was the Golden Hurricane head coach for four seasons. After going 19-8 in his first two seasons, things went downhill for Blankenship. He went 3-9 and 2-10 in his last two seasons before getting let go by TU.

Blankenship coached Union High School in Tulsa for 14 very successful seasons. He led Union to three state titles.

TU hired Baylor offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery to replace Blankenship as head coach.

Blankenship expects an official announcement from Memphis next week.

Congratulations to him and the family. Good luck in every game but one!

I hope this means we are off the hook for any buyout money.

Interesting position considering that our offense declined in quality during his tenure.

Is an offensive analyst a consulting type job or is it an actual coaching position?

The kiss of death for the Memphis offense.

He is a good guy and deserves credit for standing by and being loyal to TU when things were really jacked up in the program, ala burns era.

Can't say I'll miss his decision making as the head coach though.
