Around the League:

∙ USF plays host to Houston on Wednesday (2 p.m. ET, ESPNU) in the conference opener for both teams. The Bulls and Cougars split the series last season with each team winning on their home floor. USF, which dropped a 66-49 road decision to Seton Hall in its last time out on Dec. 22, is led by freshman Jahmal McMurray. His team-leading scoring average of 13.0 points per game ranks second in the conference among freshmen. Houston is 28-26 all-time in conference openers and posted a 76-49 win over Nicholls State on Monday to wrap up non-conference action. They Cougars are led by Rob Gray, Jr., who leads the league with 18.5 points per game.

∙ Memphis, No. 17 SMU and Temple each picked up wins in league opening action on Tuesday while RV/RV UConn posted a win at RV/RV Texas in non-conference action.

∙ Trahson Burrell collected a double-double in his first start of the season for Memphis, 21 points and a career-high 13 rebounds, in a 77-65 win over Tulane at FedEx Forum. The Tigers have now won 12 consecutive conference openers dating back to the 2005-06 season. Dylan Osetkowski notched his fifth double-double of the season (15 points and 11 rebounds) for the Green Wave.

∙ Shake Milton scored a career-high 24 points for SMU and was 7-of-8 from 3-point range in a 81-69 win over Tulsa at the Reynolds Center. SMU shot 56-percent (31-of-55) as a team in the victory. James Woodard had a team-high 22 points for the Hurricane.

∙ Temple defeated No. 22/23 Cincinnati at Fifth Third Arena, 77-70, and defeated a nationally ranked team for the ninth straight year. Quenton DeCosey went 10-of-11 at the line for the Owls and scored a game-high tying 19 points in the win. Temple matched its best shooting percentage of the season at 50-percent, and also tied its most 3-pointers made with 10. Troy Caupain had a season-high 19 points and dished out seven assists for the Bearcats.

∙ UConn defeated RV/RV Texas, 71-66, in its penultimate non-conference game of the season, snapping the Longhorns’ six-game winning streak. Rodney Purvis had 16 points while Shonn Miller and Daniel Hamilton added 13 points apiece for UConn, which has won four straight.
