From Merican Mania...
Today we will look inside the three biggest bracket projections out there that is CBS, ESPN, and USA Today. I will be looking at where each team from the American is standing and if they even have them in their bracket at this moment.
UConn: The Huskies got a huge win on Thursday Night by beating nationally ranked SMU. This gave UConn another good win to add to their profile. Unfortunately, Kevin Ollie’s group could not win the quick turnaround game on Saturday in Cincinnati. The Huskies lost to the Bearcats and also they are now 2.5 games back of the Temple Owls in the standings. A win over Cincy probably would of solidified a spot in the tournament, but now they fall back onto the bubble.USA Today: 8 Seed (Bubble)….CBS Sports: 9 Seed (Bubble)….ESPN: 9 Seed
Temple: After falling to the #1 team in the nation by double digits on Thursday; the Owls beat Houston on Sunday 69-66. It was not easy as Temple came back from a 10 point deficit in the 2nd half as Devin Coleman nailed a three to put Temple up with 12 seconds left to play. Temple now has a 1 game lead on SMU in the conference standing, but since SMU will not play in the tournament, the Owls actually have a 2 game lead for the #1 seed the conference tournament. USA Today: 10 Seed (Bubble) CBS Sports: 11 Seed (Auto Bid/Bubble)… ESPN: 11 Seed (Auto Bid)
Cincinnati: UC lost a heartbreaker in Tulsa on Thursday in OT. After another two point loss Cincinnati was knocked out of most brackets for the time being. The Bearcats were able to quickly rebounding in a must win game in which they defeated the UConn Huskies 65-60 and swept UConn this year. USA Today: 11 Seed (Bubble/Last 4 In)…. CBS Sports: OUT (First Team Out)….ESPN: 11 Seed (Last 4 In)
Tulsa: As we just mentioned, Tulsa got a huge OT win over Cincinnati on Saturday in OT to boost their resume. A loss probably would have killed any chance Tulsa had at an at large bid. The Golden Hurricane came back on Sunday and avoided a bad loss as they beat UCF on the road by a score 75-67. Tulsa has a HUGE game against Temple on Tuesday Night. USA Today: 11 Seed (Last 4 In)… CBS Sports: OUT (2nd Team Out)…ESPN: OUT (First Four Out)
A month ago it looked like the American may be a one bid league, now the AAC could possibly be a 4 bid league. A lot will depend how each team fairs in the AAC Tournament. We are now just 20 days away from Selection Sunday and I can’t wait.
