I have been reading the Wichita State message boards on the whole transferring thing. Interesting thoughts over there, although the exact cause of so many players transferring is not clearly found. Some blame the players, many highly recruited, as being spoiled and wanting instant gratification. Others blame Marshall. One of the clearest sounding posts described Marshall as a “character”, in the same vein as Bobby Knight or Huggins. When a team is winning, coaches like that with all their many foibles and difficulties, those character traits can be dismissed or found to be ingratiating. But when they are not winning, those traits become a huge irritant and distraction. Plus their behavior seems to get worse.
Another post said that in the coming months, many former players will be coming forward to describe what it is like playing for Marshall.
